Try the OXO Good Grips Silicone Basting Brush, which works like a natural bristle brush but with the added conveniences of heat resistance, odor resistance and cleanability. Multiple layers of silicone bristles tackle all tasks. Gaps in the center bristles hold liquid as you transfer sauce from the bowl to the work surface, and tapered outer bristles let you baste poultry and roasts with ease. The silicone bristles are heat resistant to 600 degrees F so you can baste in a hot pan or on the grill, and the angled Brush head keeps bristles off the countertop. Great pastry brush. Purchased a small + large, both will be very useful. See attached photo of other brand previously purchased. It lacks the yellow middle piece with the holes, just strands. I use a lot of olive oil on meats and a silicone brush is the easy way to apply. With the other brand, I would pour oil onto the strands and before I could get it on the meat, 1/2 would run off. Always a hastle no matter what I tried. Then I found this OXO brand with the yellow center insert with the holes in it. Ran both the small and large thru my olive oil onto the meat test. Works as advertised and held oil in middle rather than dripping onto the floor! Work like a charm, so I purchased 2 more of each in case the day comes where no longer avail on Amazon. Great angle to the comfortable handles as well. I cleaned them the easy way, spray strands and middle with Bio Degradable All Purpose cleaner, let it sit for a minute, rinse under hot water. Viola, all the oil washed away the easy way. You will see on my photo where I looped parachute cord ($2 at Walmart) in order to hang them upside down to dry. Works great for my BBQ Smokers and kitchen cooking.

Not sure why I'd always avoided silicone basting brushes, but I finally gave in after getting frustrated trying to clean my bristle brushes.

I had the opportunity to try this brush for the first time a few days ago with barbecue sauce, and it worked better than I expected. The little plastic doodad in the middle did a good job of holding extra sauce. And it was really easy to clean after the meal was done.

Admittedly I haven't tried it with a thinner sauce - might need another bristle or nylon brush for that - but for bbq sauce, this thing works great in my experience.

This pastry brush is well constructed, solid, and versatile. So far I have used it to brush egg white on several bread loaves and butter on puff pastry desserts. It has been able to carry a lot of liquid from bowl to dough without dripping. The silicone bristles are not as light and delicate as standard bristles, but the brush is easy to manipulate, so by using a light touch it has worked well on delicate pastries as well as the whole grain loaves. What's more important is that the silicone bristles on this brush will not fall out and sabotage my baking efforts. My last standard brush began to fall apart bristle by bristle and threatened to destroy my most recent puff pastry. After all the hours I put into that puff pastry, the last thing I needed was for my guests to get bristles in their teeth! This brush is dishwasher safe and cleans thoroughly with no effort on my part. I am 100% satisfied.

The only flaw I see is that the large silicone pieces in the center designed to hold sauce and such, won't allow for detail work. For those tasks I use a natural bristle brush I bought at Lowe's for a dollar. Problem solved.
