Another question from some reviewers - There is minimal mention in the instructions about removing the scale platform for cleaning. The instructions mention it can be done but not how. The platform can be removed by deftly lifting up on the two opposite sides of scales and popping the platform from the two pop in fasteners holding it to the main body - the process may be a bit concerning the first time tried but it works. The platform can be popped back into place once cleaned.
The new features are nice but not game changing: The lighted display is easier to read than the previous passive display, the tare function is now part of the on/off switch. One change that to me is less desirable is that in order to turn the system off using a switch you have to depress and hold the on/off switch down for a few seconds instead of just clicking it. This change was necessitated because a simple click now is the Tare function.
The scale’s accuracy is about the same as the previous version. Using calibrated weights I find that the scale can be off by a gram, sometimes depending on whether the weight was placed directly in the center of the scale or slightly off-center. If your accuracy requirements require measurements down to a tenth of a gram use scales such as the Smart Weigh Digital Pro Pocket Scale.
So - if you’re still a pounds and ounces kind of person, sticking with the old version probably works fine. For us grams types a new purchase may be somewhat justified but not essential.
We heard the version before this one was good, but apparently this one is not so great.

I wanted one that used AA or AAA batteries, had a removable platform, and one that physical buttons. I like how this scale looks and am happy with most of the OXO Good Grips products that I have, so despite the price (~$70 CAD) bought this scale.
The pull-out, easy to read display is a useful bonus. This scale looks like a high-quality unit, but appearances are sometimes deceiving.
The platform is removable, but I am unlikely to remove it again for fear of breaking the cheap plastic friction fit pins that hold the platform to the scale. I wish that they used magnets to secure the platform, but that would have required better quality construction. The scale is essentially made of cheap plastic with a very thin veneer of stainless. If the metal was any thinner, they would need to call it paint.
I have no idea how well this scale will hold up with use over time. The quality of construction has me concerned. At least it uses AAA batteries and has physical buttons.

All of the above was fixed with the new scale - it's pull out display makes it super easy to read even when weighing large mixing bowls, it has a high weight read (with a bar to display how close you are to max weight) so I'm never concerned about weighing bread, stray water drops aren't turning it off, and it has a long auto shut off time ... And remembers where I left it at when I do have to nudge it awake.
All in all, well recommended. I chose this at the suggestion of Serious Eats, and I'm super happy I did so.
