The one thing that has literally never worked is the battery indicator on the display. Just says empty even with a brand new set of Duracells.
I've only used this scale a few times, so below is my initial impressions. I will update this review if my opinion changes:
PROS
*The scale is gorgeous. It is black with a stainless weighing surface and the 'look' of it is the nicest I've seen.
*It is very easy to use and intuitive. I went hunting for the instrucitons and they ended up being a tiny little two page booklet...super simple!
*I love the pullout display, which is attached by a cable to the main unit. I have always had a huge issue seeing the display on scales when the bowl I'm weighing covers the display or casts a shadow.
*The backlight feature, which you can activate with a touch of a button, makes a beautiful blue glow that makes the display super easy to read. This feature has been gently mocked in other reviews, but in fact for those of us a bit older who don't see as well it is super handy!
*The stainless top removes for cleaning. Nice!
*The max weight of 11 pounds is awesome. My old one was four pounds, which meant I couldn't use my favorite bowl on it as the bowl alone is about four pounds. this scale allows me to place my large mixing bowl and as much flour as can fit in it and still not max out. Yay!
*The batteries go in easily and fit properly in the unit. I threw out my old Tanita because it was a giant pain to insert them end to end without them popping out...and ultimately they never got in fully and the scale was showing as low battery even with four new batteries installed.
CONS:
*The removable top isn't dishwasher safe. You need to wash it by hand.
*When you turn it on, the display takes about three seconds to get ready. While you're waiting you see a countdown with the numbers 3-2-1 and then it is ready for use. I find this annoying since I hate to wait...but I suppose making an instant on feature would cost a lot more so perhaps a fair trade-off.
*Instructions do not state its accuracy. The Oxo web site says it measures in 1/8 ounce increments. Does that mean it is accurate to 1/8 ounces? I have a scientific background and would prefer to know the margin of error. I can say that I weighed a stick of butter and it came up as exactly four ounces.
For me at least, the cons are minor and I LOVE this scale. The one remaining issue is how long it lasts. I'll check in and update this review if I have any problems.
I got this scale to replace an inexpensive one I had gotten a little while back. It went completely out of calibration, so I had to toss it. I knew about the imperial units (oz and lb) using fractions but I didn't care since I almost never use them. Specifying ounces in a recipe is too confusing since it can be misinterpreted for fluid ounces. (1 cup = 8 fl. oz) There's no way to misinterpret grams. Using grams forces precision measurement without decimals. The nutritional panel on foods and drinks usually list the serving sizes in volume and grams, so it makes conversions easier. For example, my almond flour lists a serving size as 1/4 cup / 28g (1 oz). If my recipe calls for 1 cup of almond flour, I just have to multiply by 4: 112 g (4 oz). Not only is using the scale much easier than dealing with mixing cups, there's less to clean when I'm done.
I was disappointed that the scale always defaulted to imperial units whenever I turned it on. I called the company to complain. Perhaps there was a European model that defaulted to grams/kilograms they could send me? It turns out that some scales have a defect that causes them to not remember its settings after being powered off. However, their customer service folks were very nice and drop shipped me a new scale with a return label to send the old one back. I didn't see physically distinguishing differences between the replacement scale and the original. The scale I received from Amazon had no-name batteries and the one from OXO had Maxell brand batteries.
*** TEST YOUR SCALE: Turn it on, switch to grams, turn it off, then turn it back on. If it shows ounces/pounds, you have a defective scale. Don't return it to Amazon. Call OXO and process the exchange through them. ***
The other minor annoyance is the 3 second delay after powering it on before it is ready to use. My old scale didn't have this long of a delay. However, this scale stays on for much longer. I used to hate it when my old scale would turn itself off if it didn't sense a change after a short time. I also like that this scale uses AAA batteries instead of a CR2032 like most other inexpensive food scales.
If I had to work in imperial units, I probably would have returned this scale due to the fractions vs. decimals issue. Since that's not an issue for me and my replacement scale stays in metric, I'm keeping it. I took a star off for the minor annoyances, but overall an excellent product with stellar support.

A couple of things I like:
1. being able to go and search out an additional pack of flour when you didnt have quite enough, and not worrying about remembering how much you've weighed in so far, as the scale will remember where they were set even if the screen goes to sleep, is a tiny thing but one that genuinely makes me happy.
2. I have been in the habit of weighing yeast and salt out for bread on a mini scale to get accurate measures, but when I add these in to a kg of flour it still records them accurately.
3. Unlike previous cheap scales, when making dough for 2 loaves of bread (nearly 2kg total weight) in my glass Kitchenaid mixer bowl, it doesn't go out of range.
Still relatively new so I can't yet comment on durability.
Also, further to other comments, I received these in Nov '18, and they *do* remember whether they were last set to metric (kg) or imperial (oz).
