As far as I'm concerned, this is the cat's meow. Yes, it is perhaps the most expensive of all shakers. However, after fumbling with traditional shakers that either leaked because they wouldn't fit together easily or struggling to break the sections apart (picture a bartender smacking it on the side of the bar) the fun was taken out of making the drinks. With this, because the top screws into the bottom, and because to pour you press the button in the top it is fun again. The drink will pour from around the edge of the top, very evenly no matter where you hold it. It is made very, very well and feels substantial in your hand. The stainless is very good quality and the opening mechanism comes out of the top for cleaning. Yes, if you will be pouring some pulp little pieces can get caught, but I find it so easy to use that I don't mind picking a few pieces off of the, what appears to be silicone, gasket. I'm not sure if the mechanism can take the dishwasher, but just throw the other two pieces in and you are ready for the next day. I've made four martinis and it looks as if it would comfortably hold 5 plus ice. It's nice that it is insulated, but the ice still melts that is left inside and you have to toss it and start fresh. One possible drawback is that if you are a woman with very small hands it could be too large.
When making seconds, remember to depress the top to close or you will get a surprise. And, finally, there will be some drops left in the pouring rim so when you begin to shake for the second round you may get some drops flying out. Quickly rinse and it will only be water and not sticky alcohol, or turn it upside down to empty. This is a great design.

seals tightly and works well. Unlike some steel shakers, this one is insulated so you don't freeze your hand while shaking it and there is no cap to fling off. If you have ever handled a stainless shaker, you know immediately when your drink is cold because you can't feel your fingers. This one does get cold, but the cold stays inside with your drink, where it belongs.

Having tried several shakers, this is my favorite. No leaks, doesn't freeze your hand and the lid makes it easy to see if you have it shut or not. I shake a lot of drinks, this is the only shaker we keep in the house now.

Many thanks to the reviewers who answered my question about opening this shaker after use. I have really small hands and have some grip issues related to carpal tunnel, and I have a hard time breaking the seal of a traditional three-piece shaker. Thankfully, the threaded screw-on top and the flared top make unscrewing it a breeze. I open it immediately after use and rinse out the parts in hot water to keep any juice from getting sticky and congealing.

As another reviewer noted, this shaker is not for muddled-style drinks with a lot of texture. Excess pulp and seeds will clog the fine built-in strainer (it's easy to clean, just affects pour). I typically don't shake muddled drinks, but if this is a big deal for you, look for a different style.

My one beef with the product is that after regular use for several months, the top button sometimes gets "stuck" in the upright position. I've noticed that this seems to happen after I run the pieces through the dishwasher. Sometimes it takes me a minute, but fiddling with the button (twisting it) will loosen it up, though it is annoying and I'm considering writing to OXO to see whether this is a defect or what. The easy solution is to hand wash it - I use a long-handled scrub brush designed for tall bottles, and the bristles are perfect for getting in the grooves and crevices of the filter and seal.

Overall, I consider this a HUGE improvement on other shaker designs and am very happy with my purchase.

I have tried a number of different shakers and have found that they either leak, the top doesn't stay on, or it is difficult to fit the parts together. Also, I just don't prefer the technique involved in using the Boston shaker. After purchasing the OXO Good Grips Steel Cocktail Shaker, I absolutely love it!

This shaker is so awesome:

1) It is idiot proof - seriously! Just pour the ingredients and ice into the shaker, screw on the top, and shake it. No worrying about parts of it not fitting together right, or coming loose while you are shaking it and spilling your drink all over the place. Its simple design and ease of use makes it such an awesome shaker.

2) No leaks- when you shake this shaker you do not have to deal with leaks. Just make sure the rubber button on top is all the way up and flush with the top of the metal lid, and shake to your heart's content, leak free.

3) Easy pour - push the rubber button on top of the lid and the cocktail pours out nicely and easily. Again, no worries that any parts of the shaker will come off. Instead, it is as simple as the push of a button on this shaker for a great pour.

4) Classy, sturdy design - this shaker looks great. It has a stainless steel finish. I just wash it with warm soapy water and it continues to look great. Both the bottom part and the lid are made of a sturdy design. Also, I have received several compliments on the look and performance of this shaker from my houseguests.

OXO has high quality products and this steel cocktail shaker stands up to the OXO reputation. It is easy to use, leakproof, has an easy pour and a classy, yet sturdy design. I recommend it highly!
