I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a match of culture and character building. Throughout the pages, each creation came to life in their own unique way. J.Z.N. possesses the ability to make them seem real. Their lives. Their choices.
It was a pleasure to add this book to my collection, and the gorgeous cover isn't bad either! I can't wait to find out what's in store next for Catherine and Bowen :)
For a fantasy/paranormal read, this was super refreshing. We have boatloads of series out there, and not so much stand-alones. (Trusting my instinct that this is not the debut of a series, but that would be great as well.) I am so glad I had the chance to read this book, and I look forward to more of the author's coming works.
I originally was interested because of the cover. (Look at that beautiful book!)
J.Z.N. McCauley did such a great job with her characters, Catherine has such a strong personality, and was very well written, she easily slid into being relatable and a favorite character. I'm a huge sucker for anything to do with Magic, this book defiantly shows off the magic of druids, and an adventure. (Side Note can we talk about Conall? uh yes.)
The only down side for me was I wish there was more description of the areas that they were in because Ireland is such a beautiful country but this downside wasn't enough for me to knock a star off. It was a very good read, I highly suggest it for anyone who wants to read about druids and magic. It definitely has a young adult, fantasy, feel also, there's a little romance. I cannot wait for the next book!!
***I am voluntarily reviewing this book, I did get an ARC copy from the author, this in no way influences my review of the book.***
I've never read about druids before, but since I am fascinated with Ireland and myths, Oak and Mistletoe was the perfect choice!
The story mainly follows Catherine Green, a girl which originally comes to Ireland to visit her relatives but ends up staying much longer due to getting a great job in a museum. With her twin sister Kathleen and her brother Danny, life seems good and there's nothing to worry about...or so she thought. As soon as she meets the attractive stranger Bowen who keeps talking in riddles every time they two see each other, Catherine's life takes a sudden turn and things happen she'd never expected to be possible.
And when Catherine finally learns she is somehow connected to the ancient druids of Ireland, and is the chosen one to break a long hidden curse, she knows it's her time to show strength and she's ready to give it all.
Follow her on her journey about hidden secrets, astounding truths and long forgotten things.
J.Z.N. McCauley made me laugh and cry but most of all, she made me feel connected. I understood why characters do specific things or feel a certain way.
So, if you like mythology, archaeology or just want to find out more about the ancient Ireland, go read this book, it's fantastic! :)
