Product Description

The SpringStar Apple Maggot lure set is proven effective at reducing apple maggot damage. Flies are attracted by the apple scent in these lures and come to a sticky demise on the juicy-looking apple sphere. Apple Maggot traps should be re-baited once a month through growing season for best results.

Last year, my apples were so infested, we could only eat about 2 apples. This spring, I hung the Red Sphere Traps for Apple Maggot traps (with this pheromone lure attractant added ~ purchased separately) and the Codling Moth Traps. We also got a bug zapper and hung it by our trees (LOVE that thing too!). End result... I have had about 3-4 bushels of apples this year!!!

This trap is in essence a red thin plastic ball that you cover with sticky stuff (I recommend purchasing the spray on "goo"... because it is easier to apply and less messy), then apply pheromone lure attractant (purchased separately) and put inside ball. Ideally you are to hang the balls in the trees prior to bud break. It is said that if you keep an eye on them though out the season and see bugs, you will know when to spray. I did not do that and I also hung mine late (after blooming), so I wasn't sure if they were going to work, but as I have stated above, the results were still very rewarding! I did not see any signs of insect damage (except for from yellow jackets). I used 3 spheres each for a Dwarf apple tree and also placed 3 in my dwarf plum tree (next to my apple tree). (Yes, both of these insects affect plums also.) You take them down in the fall after harvest. Some people clean off the sticky goo somehow and reuse. I am just going to throw them out and hang new ones annually. It is worth it!

~Another thing, quickly pick up bad or spoiled fruit and dispose of in the garbage or burn it... do not compost because the larvae will live in the dirt and will be back in increased numbers next year!
~Also, if you spray, never spray your tree when blooming, because it will kill the bees! Bees are inactive or less active at night when it is cooler. If you must spray, do so as close to dawn or dusk as possible (preferably dawn, when cooler). No bees = no fruit!!!

Good Luck!
