Product Description

Slightly larger lens than the standard Flak Jacket, the Oakley XLJ Flak Jacket Sunglasses feature polarized lenses to give you more protection from the sun's nasty rays. If you're biking and you need to see those berms rushing your way, swap out the Flak Jacket's lenses to suit any lighting condition in a matter of seconds. These shades stay on your dome thanks to Unobtanium rubber temples and nosepiece, which actually get grippier as you sweat. When your trail runs take you into less-than-favorable conditions, Oakley's hydrophobic lens coating repels water, oils, and even dust.

The Iconic Oakley Flak Jacket

Sport professionals demand nothing less than the best, and Oakley has answered the challenge for decades. World-class athletes have driven Oakley to create innovation after innovation, including interchangeable lens designs with unbeatable optical clarity. Flak Jacket takes that to the next level with the latest in performance technology.

Stays Ahead Of The Sun: Flak Jacket lets you change lenses in seconds to optimize vision in any sport environment. Multiple lens colors are available, and all lenses feature the unbeatable clarity of Oakley’s High Definition Optics (HDO).

Offers A Secure, Custom Fit: Choose the nose pads that give you the best fit – two sizes are included with every frame. Like the stem sleeves, they’re made of Unobtainium to increase grip with perspiration. Oakley’s Three-Point Fit optimizes comfort and holds the lenses in precise optical alignment for superior clarity.

Optimizes Comfort, Protection and Clarity: Flak Jacket is made of lightweight O Matter for all-day comfort. Pure Plutonite lens material filters out 100% of all UV, and Flak Jacket meets ANSI Z87.1 standards for impact protection. The semi-rimless design means there’s no frame rim to block downward view. Optical clarity exceeds ANSI Z87.1 standards, and XYZ Optics extends razor-sharp vision all the way to the lens periphery.

The item advertised and paid for was a NEW pair of Oakley Flak Jacket sunglasses with polarized lenses. The item I received was used and the lenses are not polarized. The retail box was beat up and taped together with scotch tape. The shipping box was also abused in some matter. I am very displeased and unsatisfied!

After submitting my review above, I was contacted by Amazon about the issues stated. I was first offered a link to purchase another pair of sunglasses with the correct lenses. I was assured that this was a one time error. I told the Customer Service Representative that that was an unsatisfactory offer because it was Amazon's error for not checking the contents of another customers return. The box I received was in-fact labeled "HD-Polarized." However, the glasses were not.

The Customer Service Rep then offered to ship me the correct glasses, overnight, at no additional cost. This pleased me. When I received the new glasses, I opened the shipping container to find a brand new, unopened retail box. Inside was a pair of Oakley Flak Jacket sunglasses with polarized lenses and all the factory plastic coverings. I also found a marker used to apply Oakley's Nano water repellent, an extra set of nose pieces, warranty card, instructions for care and use, a holster bag for the glasses and a buffing cloth. All of these items were missing from the original order. I was emailed a return shipping label and return authorization to be included in the return of the first package.

Amazon tried really hard to make this right by me. I appreciate that! I will continue to use Amazon and will promote them to my friends and family.
They really are trying to be most customer centric company in the world. It was a no fuss, no hassle exchange/return experience. A person doesn't usually find that these days.

This is my third pair of Oakley sunglasses. Previously I had two pair of Minute 1.0 shades. The two pair had combined to last 10 years total with minor repairs. My lenses were getting scratched and it was time for new rubbers so I set on getting a new pair.

For those not intimately familiar with Oakley, they put out an outstanding product for the discerning consumer. If you are tired of $15 sunglasses that break at the slightest flex, or fed up with poor lens quality that gives you headaches at the end of a long day outside, then Oakley is for you.

To be honest, at first I was not totally sold on any new Oakley style. A lot has changed in four years since I bought my last pair (the design of which by the way was then already 6-7 years old and getting ready to be phased out). The more I looked however the more I decided I wanted a practical sport style, as opposed to a fashion style. I decided to get a pair of the Flak Jackets, with jet black frames and black iridium polarized XLJ lenses. The clarity is truly top notch. The "rubbers" (Unobtanium) on the nose pads and ear stems grips so well all the time even if you're sweating. The fit feels like they are custom made. I especially like the wide open view of the XLJ lenses. The lenses extend further down to give greater coverage but they are not so huge as to get in the way or make you feel like you are wearing a ski mask. Oakley's website will have way better descriptions of all the details, but sum it up to say I love the shades.

If you aren't ready to spend good money on good sunglasses then you can go down to your gas station and pick out a pair right now that was made in China. Oakley definitely does not scrimp on quality and you get what you pay for.

These sleek-looking, minimally designed, affordable sunglasses are probably the most versatile in the world of outdoor sports. I have worn them on the water, in the snow, hiking, biking, driving, canoeing, climbing, playing tennis and much more. What sets these shades apart from others of its class and from other companies is that they maintain a low profile (laying close to the face and temples), are quite rigid (rarely will they bend on an imperfectly shaped head such as my own), and light (most of time I am outdoors with them I actually forget that I'm wearing them). The XLJ lens is large enough to provide sufficient coverage from wind and debris while at the same time being small enough to prevent fogging. The construction of these sunglasses is such that they never bounce, never move, and, as I mentioned before, practically disappear from one's consciousness once wearing them.

If you plan on biking with these glasses, however, be warned. This specific model, the flak jacket, features extra long arms that wrap around the sides of the head to where the rear of the skull curves inwards. Although this rock solid construction makes these glasses ideal for running, triathlons, and playing tennis, the ends of the arms hit the back of my bike helmet. I have a Giro Ionos helmet, and these sunglasses simply do not sit comfortable on my head with a helmet on. I originally got these glasses for triathlons -- because they would be good biking and running -- and don't be fooled, they are some of the best for competing because of their weight and quality of sun protection. However, they are not the most comfortable sunglasses on the market or even that Oakley makes for biking.

Bottom line: get these glasses if you want an all around pair of sunglasses for any outdoor sport from tennis to rock climbing to sailing, but if you plan on biking, you may want to continue searching. These glasses are polarized, sturdy, affordable, good looking, and inconspicuous.
