apparently, this was a pretty dumb expectation, as explained my a professional plumber.
this putty is used for helping plug small, low pressure leaks along seams and grooves -- not for plugging holes.
i post this review to help other un-initiated homeowners: if you have a big leak, i'd recommend you get a plumber, or, implement a more structural fix.
Note: This does have a label on it that says it contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer. I saw some reviews that this freaked people out. Everything in California has this label including parking garages. Suggest you don't eat it and wash your hands when done.
If you replace a sink and faucet from scratch, then one is not enough. There could be a bit more information on the container telling how long it takes to dry (it takes several days).
