Review
...it is definitely a must read for anyone wishing to understand why America seems more alone in the world now than it has ever been. -- ConservativeHQ
"It's truly a critical book... Brief and powerful... It's something that the Romney campaign ought to memorize... The Dean, in my opinion, of observers of foreign policy - Bruce Herschensohn... My favorite analyst of world affairs, Bruce Herschensohn. And I mean that quite literally." -- Dennis Prager, best-selling author and nationally syndicated radio show host (taken from the Sept 27 interview)
Bruce Herschensohn calmly makes a devastating case against the foreign policy of President Barack Hussein Obama and, more importantly, offers readers a foundation on which they can build their own ability to assess American international relations going forward. -- The American Spectator
Herschensohn was once a former deputy special assistant to President Nixon, who hailed him as 'particularly well qualified in an area I find important, foreign policy. He is an expert in that area.' To have been called an expert in foreign policy by Richard Nixon is like having Pavarotti say you're a great singer. Nixon often dazzled audiences with tours d'horizon of international affairs, and Herschensohn does the same.... -- Human Events
In the first presidential debate of the 2012 election, Republican challenger Mitt Romney defeated Barack Obama handily in a takedown of the President's devastating domestic policies. Foreign policy wasn't addressed, but all Romney need do to to brush up for a victory in that arena is study Bruce Herschensohn's new book. -- FrontPage Magazine
From the Back Cover
The international relations of the United States has changed radically from what had been U.S. foreign policy for decades under presidents from both major political parties. Those were times in which people around the world could count on Presidents of the United States to treat the U.S.A.'s friends as friends and adversaries as adversaries.
The book makes no predictions other than the obvious: on January the 20th of 2013 there will be an inaugural ceremony above the west steps of the U.S. Capitol Building. It might be the Second Inaugural of Barack Obama or it might be the First Inaugural of someone else.
Either way, that elected leader will be a War-Time President.

It was written in 2012, in time for the presidential election. Mr. Herschenson is an experienced man in foreign affairs going back decades to President Nixon, who opened up relations with China, and represented the US well overseas.
The US for many years was the heart of NATO and worked to keep the countries of the world as free as possible, so that their citizens could have freedom and control their own destiny. Unfortunately, President Obama has a different approach to foreign affairs, and wants to make up with countries who have not liked us in the past and to do this, has cooled relations with past faithful allies. For example, sending back the bust of Churchill immediately after her took office to the British embassy sent a message that Obama did not consider the UK a special friend as they had been for many, many years. President Bush had agreements with Poland and the Czech republic to host a Anti Ballistic Missile system and radar that could provide coverage of Iran. these agreements cost the governments of the countries some political capital. Obama unilaterally cancelled both agreements for undefined reasons, apparently to make Iran and Russia happy, as Russia thought that the missile system with about 10 missiles could be used against them.
I found this book upsetting in places, as it concentrates all of the betrayals of our foreign allies in one place.
He then, carefully, pits the wisdom of some of the greatest minds in politics against the actions of Obama. His delivery is painful to read at times, simply because it shows how Obama has gone out of his way to refute and ignore "conventional wisdom."
Personally, I found the book so disturbing at many junctures, that I had to put it down and resume reading after I had calmed down.
If you appreciate rationale thinking and well cited literature, you will find this book quite enjoyable. It also might just help you explain the folly of Obama at cocktail parties.
The author starts each section with a review of the long history that had built America's relations with her long term allies. Then, he systematically explains how Obama has purposely turned alliances into relationships of distrust...not with the American people but Obama himself.
You will have difficulty reading too much of this book at one setting because it is so upsetting. At the same time, you will not be able to put it away simply because it is impelling reading.
