May contain minor spoilers.

If the glowing reviews are anything to go by, I’m clearly in the minority. However, I’m not going to mince words. Aurora Rose Reynolds’ "Obligation" was one of the worst books I’ve had the displeasure of reading so far this year. To say this book was a train wreck would be putting it mildly. I don’t even know where to begin with this mess.

From the poor writing to the shoddy plot and characterizations to the lack of proper editing, there’s not a lot of effort here—and it shows. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no grammar expert, but even I know the difference between action tags and dialogue tags and how to properly punctuate them. You can’t speak an action. A period is needed as a separator between the action and the dialogue, not a comma. This is one of my biggest pet peeves, you have no idea. There were awkward paragraph breaks that were meant to signal a scene transition or a change in point of view, when neither the scene nor point of view changed. They were placed in the middle of conversations, more or less. Furthermore, when I see something like this, on the very first page, no less, I know things don’t bode well for me:

"[...] 'You knew we were looking for her,' she says angrily her head."

And my personal favorite:

"My body begins to wither under him as I fight hard not to scream out his name."

Needless to say, the book was poorly edited, if at all. Normally, this wouldn’t make or break a book for me because, bottom line, if the story is good, I can overlook these things. As for this book, unfortunately, the editing was the least of its problems.

The characters weren’t fleshed out enough. They were boring and uninteresting and easily forgettable.

I tried at 20% and now I'm at 45% and I CAN'T do it anymore!!!!! This book is ridiculous. It has no depth at all. The characters are transparent, the storyline isn't just Choppy... it's a Tsunami. WHY.... ?.The Until series was great. WHAT HAPPENED HERE? At 20% I had to go back a couple of chapters thinking I missed something important in the storyline when something did not make sense but nope it still didn't make anything clearer. I debated just deleting the book and decided maybe it would get better. BUT NO... it just got worse. SPOILERS......

Sham marriage???? Not much explanation...
Parents killed....Why?
Heroin's background should have least given her a backbone. Sporadic at times, inconsistent, Wimpy...Simply...Yuk..
Hero... plays her like a puppet.
Good intentions yeah but when something bad happens to her and he feels that he didn't protect her he cuts her off... FOR HER OWN GOOD..!!! Come on.!!!!
This story feels like it was written by a preteen
Look I'm only at 45% but I CAN'T GO on with this story anymore.
That said... I loved the Until Series and Assumption.
I read a lot of the reviews and maybe it's just me. But I just don't get it.
SORRY.

Wow!!! And NOT Wow in a good way! This book has me wondering if the same person wrote this as the person who wrote Assumption and some of the other ARR books I've read. Poor in every way...plot, lead male, horrible female (Myla is whinny, brittle, maybe even stupid) and too many similar/interchangeable male characters.
It was confusing from the very beginning, and never seemed to go in a straight line or connect one thing to another. All the time I wasted reading this, I can't get back...and I really feel like I wasted my time. I had been waiting for this to be published...sorry I waited. Now I'm not sure about the upcoming book - Distraction???
This book was somehow supposed to be tied to the previous book, as the first book led us to this one...but, I didn't get that connection either. But then again...that's not the only thing I didn't get. I know I'm one of only a few who finds this book Terrible...guess I'm crazy...but I'll stick with the few.

Very DISAPPOINTING!!!

I loved Assumption and the Until Series, this book, not so much.
It felt like half the story was missing.
The characters were flat.
Dialogue, flat.
Confusing.
Disappointing.
Read her other books and SKIP this one.

Actual Rating: 4.5 Stars!

Obligation follows the story of Myla and Kai. When Myla was very little, her family sent her to live with another family as their time here was almost up. They thought that they were protecting her, but had no idea that her new home would become her worst nightmare.

Kai has always felt the need to protect Myla. Since the first time he saw her, he knew that he had to protect her and vowed that he would always keep her safe. Since taking over his family business, he's been trying to keep his promise. Once again their paths will cross and put them in an unlikely scenario. Just how far will Kai go to protect Mila?

I have been a big fan of Aurora Rose Reynolds for a long time. So, when I see she has a new book coming out, I have to read it immediately. I just know I'm going to read something amazing and she never disappoints.

Obligation gave me everything that I was looking for and more. I loved the idea of this story: A sham marriage in order to protect someone, that will ultimately become more. The chemistry between Kai and Mila was intense and so full of promise. Their passion so palpable. I couldn't get enough of the two of them together.

This book was full of angst, romance, passion and frustration. I fell for the characters immediately: wanting answers and just wanting to know more about them. Obligation had a lot of great twists, turns and suspense. I was completely captivated and was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. If you haven't had the opportunity to read any books by Aurora Rose Reynolds yet, I highly recommend checking them out.
