Outstanding hiker, good grip, comfortable

These are great. Normally I go with Keens and Merrills, but this is my new favorite hiking shoe. I got the waterproof version and the regular (and alternate or wear according to weather conditions). The sole is rugged and does exceptionally well on rocky inclines - no slipping at all, good grip. They are nicely cushioned, so very comfy. Wore these the first day out (no break-in) for several hours, totally comfortable. They have a nice wide toe box like Keens, but a sturdier construction and better sole. I wear a 6 in street shoes and got these in a 6.5 (I always do for hiking/sports shoes) and they fit perfectly - not sure what you can make of that, but I like to have room for fat socks if needed, and it's better on the downhill if there's room in the toe. Note: if you have a very narrow heel, these might not be right for you. I'm really, really happy to have found these and I thank everyone who wrote a review here and at REI because I would not have known about them at all otherwise. I was shopping for a replacement pair of Keens when I happened on all the good reviews for this shoe.

I Am An RN that works 12 hour shifts in busy Critical Care Units. I broke my right foot in 2007, it healed after 12 weeks of no walking, but has never been the same. My right foot is more sensitive to strain. Most shifts I run, run, run to make certain my patients get all their needs met. I was looking for a light weight shoe with good support. I did buy 1/2 size up, but I have very small toes. My baby toe is 1/2 the length of my big toe so I don't need a large toe box. I took these shoes out of the box and added an arch support as I have extremely high arches. The arch support fits well under the removable shoe inset. My first wear of these shoes was for 12 hours without any difficulty. I wear these shoes with Under Armour stay dry/wick away socks. There is good support, with stay dry and breathable conditions. My feet never smell funky after a very busy shift as they don't sweat. My feet still feel tired some days after a very busy shift, ie walking possibly 5-6 miles, but not achy like with other shoes. I have worn Danskos in the past that give good support, but they do not stay in place if I have to bolt down a hall and these tie and stay in place! I will say that the shoe ties are short for me as I have that extremely high arch, but they still tie. The only reason I gave this shoe 4 stars is the lack of arch support for my high arch. (when I walk in the sand, the middle of my foot barely leaves a print. You can just barely see the outer edge with the ball/toe area and heel at either end.) I have now bought a pair of these for my daughter-in-law who is a Pharmacy Technician and walks more than I do in a shift as she works/walks 16 hours at a time. I will update after she gives me feedback.

Thank Heaven I ordered these shoes after reading the reviews. I have tried several different brands so I wasn't too confident these shoes would be any different. I was wrong! The minute my feet stepped into this shoe I knew immediately they are the ones I've been looking for.......Plenty of cushion in the heel and the shoe hugs the heel so no slipping. I have a high arch so I was more then pleased having that support when walking or hiking two or more miles. The sole grips, no slipping on steep dirt/stone trails. The shoe is well made, love this color! No doubt I will have these shoes for years. Thanks to all of you who wrote reviews.

Fits like a shoe, not a boot

These shoes were comfortable right out of the box and I hiked in them the next day. The soles are thick and grippy and have plenty of support and toe protection. I look forward to wearing these in warm weather when I need good tread without the warmth of boots.

What I mean by "shoe, not a boot" is that I'm a standard size 8 and, wearing an everyday thin sock, the Sawtooth Low 8 fits exactly right with zero extra length. If you're hoping to wear them with a thicker wool sock, I suppose you could try a half-size larger, but I don't know if it would be proportional. If you are kind of in-between sizes, I'd choose the larger size and wear it with medium-weight socks.

The insole is the first one in years that I've kept instead of replacing it with Superfeet.

Love, love, love OBOZ! I think they are true to size and has a great arch support insole. I have to remove it though and use custom orthotics which fit great. There is a plastic shank that runs down the whole shoe which gives incredible support which I need with plantar fasciitis. These shoes have been a Godsend bc I walk 6-10 miles per day!

I would give these shoes more than 5 stars if I could! These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. The toe box is roomy and the heal is snug without being tight and keeps my heal from sliding. No sliding at all! These are the only ones that have had enough room for my toes that do not slide. The arch support is perfect. Not too much, not too little and just in the right spot. I did order them a half size bigger than I usually wear because other reviewers suggested it and I am glad I did. The sole has a nice, soft rubber. It provides amazing traction on rocky slopes as well as grass, dirt or whatever you might hike or walk on. Surprisingly comfortable on concrete for daily wear too. The outer is very well constructed and attractive. I love the magenta color! I absolutely love these shoes and will probably wear this brand of shoe as long as they make them. I have never worn a better shoe!!!!!
