I quickly learned that I love Scarlett's writing style from reading her previous works. Obsidian Liquor was just another reminder of that. Her characters always grab ahold & demand your attention. Their stories playing out flawlessly as if appearing on the movie screen in front of me. This particular story was a bit darker & a lil' more intense, but fabulous none-the-less. Daniil is a soul to be reckoned with. Powerful, Menacing, & Gorgeous. Elizabeth taking him on could only end in two ways, & I honestly never thought it would be the second. I do believe the long list of feelings she experienced would break a lesser woman, yet she never lost her fire. Who knew bitty lil' trouble could go so far!
If you enjoy a good suspenseful investigation paired with some steamy scenes & witty comebacks then this book will win you over!

I didn't expect to like this book. I'll admit, I was hesitant. For some reason I had it in my head that this was a paranormal/alien themed book (think I'm getting this one confused with a different book) - maybe it's the red hair. I downloaded it because it was free, but now I've read it, I would have considered myself more than adequately rewarded if I had actually paid for it.

The only issue I had was I felt a little like I had started reading book two of a series, and actually had to go back to Amazon just to make sure there wasn't a prequel or something. I was a little confused by all the other characters and their obvious history, but I guess we will learn more about them in the next books (hopefully).

Great characters, can't wait to see what happens next.

Obsidian Liquor. 1 Star
I'm extremely surprised at all the good reviews this book got because this one is a big mess.
This story had so many things that go on in this book which took away from the main storyline and confused the readers. The beginning of this book started as if it was the second one of a serie which was frustrating and disoriented. I had a hard time getting into the book at first, even though this book was hard to understand where some of the beginning was coming from due to so many characters introduced at the same time. Elizabeth is shallow and not very nice in the beginning. Not much changes. There is nothing to redeem her. She stays the person she is and that isn't a very pretty person with her OUT THIS WORLD ATTITUDE!!! Her whining and secrets were annoying at times and I enjoyed read about her getting her a** kick. She’s chasing these characters around, but never explain why, other than she need a story "cause she was the best"! Danill is too much of too many different characters. It's like the author wanted him to be all these awesome things like a soldier which left him kind of weak and a bit immature given his age range. The writing felt kind of detached, but it was still uninteresting. Initially, I thought I read the wrong book due to the high scores. The storyline was headed in the right direction but somehow detoured and was lost never to be recovered again. I have read many mafia novel and this one did not fit the description.
The epilogue was rushed and left the readers just as confused as the beginning without a question answered like "WTF I JUST READ". This is the first time reading a novel by this author and definitely the last!!!

The first half of the book, I felt I was constantly missing something, or the book was telling "inside" stories that I just didn't get. Almost like there should have been something before this book. It was hard, for me, at first to keep up and it was frustrating. I even stopped reading and went to see if I missed a prequel somewhere. Something that introduced what the hell was going on and why the h was even around and why the H hated her so much. Slowly but surely things started falling in place. But it was definitely one of those where alot of the answers don't come until later.
There were A LOT of characters. For something that was already confusing, this added to it. Everyone already knew everyone so it was really the reader as the one in the dark and it took a while to really tell the characters story, even though things were happening "now" that were a result of what had happened in the past.
Overall it was very sexy. Loved the older H and much younger h aspect. Thought the H was Alpha, but could have shown it a little more.

Unlike any other I've read! I just love the imagination of Scarlett Dawn. Her stories bring you into the world she's created. Her characters are unique. Her story lines are crafted so well. I enjoyed this book and once again found that I did not want it to end!!!

This is a wonderful story! I'm a huge fan of Scarlett's Forever Evermore series so at first I wasn't sure I would like it, there's no magic or fantasy elements to this story, but the humor and developing relationship between the main characters was really fun. Definitely not one of those love at first sight yawners. A little antagonism, a few snarky comments, a spark of lust and it was game on.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like the heroine right away, she seemed to be chasing a story more suited to a gossip rag than a reputable paper, but when her reasons for doing this get revealed it really saved her for me. Then when the whole Reporters Gone Wild scene (no nudity, just a couple of good right hooks) came along I was laughing out loud. This is when you begin to have faith that she'll be able to hold her own against her new beau who is a slightly older, more experienced (and gun toting) Russian mob boss. I would love to learn more about how those two, Elizabeth and Daniil, continued to make their relationship work. They seemed like such different people, and yet they ended up really working well together. I enjoyed their budding romance immensely!

If you've enjoyed anything else by Scarlett Dawn you should definitely read this as well, you'll like it. If you haven't read anything by her yet, get it ...then quickly pick up King Hall and King Cave too, they're terrific books.
