This book was dark, thrilling and the beginning of one hell of a serial. It did not end on a cliffhanger but it did leave you wanting so much more. I was asked to beta read this book for the author and jumped at the chance after reading one of her other stories (Not part of the same series, but just as good.)

If you like, dark, edgy, dystopian, futuristic, sci-fi, The Obsidian Stairway fits all of these and still has a healthy and liberal dose of the erotic added in.

The erotic scenes in this book were so hot I could just die. You should put this on your TBR list immediately and if, at the time you are reading this, it is published, bypass the TBR and just read it. It. Was. Amazing.

If you are looking for a kinky sci-fi, dystopian romp, this isn't the story for you. If you want a darkly sexy look at a possible future where the mundane becomes a guilty unattainable fantasy found only in a woman's wildest dreams, this might be the story you are looking for. It's a sad world and that sadness will stick with you once you finish. It's a quick read that is well worth the cost.

This is my first experience with Bibi Rizer's writing and I have to tell you I am now a fan!!!

I was unsure how this story was going to progress after reading the first few paragraphs, but I'm glad I kept on going! Set in a seemingly post-apolyptic Earth, women have two choices - enter a harem (where the men have gotten fat and lazy because they're in high demand) or find their pleasure in the Pleasures for a rather large amount of money.

O'Mara is a reporter and her assignment is to review a new service at the bottom of the Obsidian Stairs. Tully manages this new service and he certainly is pleasing to O'Mara's eye! Much to her initial discomfort, electrodes are attached to her various parts of O'Mara's body and the experience begins!

Super hot scenes! The only complaint I have is that the story wasn't long enough and I can't wait for the next one!!!

Novellas that start a series or hint at something more often leave a feeling of incompleteness or unsatisfactory taste in the mouth. Not so this one. Set in a dark, dystopian future, Ms Rizer's heroine effortlessly recruits our compassion and respect. Reminiscent of Margaret Atwood and Robert Heinlein at his best, this story, complete in itself, will leave you satisfied, yet eager to find out more of this fascinating future. Don't expect a happy ending because there isn't one for O'Mara and the deliciously tragic Tully, at least not here (I have hopes for their future however and eagerly look forward to discovering more). And yes, this is an erotic novel, so there's sex. Very hot, yet utterly tender sex. I am so in love with O'Mara and Tully and yes with Bibi Rizer. More of this future please.

Somewhere in the future, or another world, O'Mara Tanner is a reporter, charged with reporting on the 'services' offered within the Pleasures, a futuristic red light district of sorts. It's her job to go take part in the new services and then write a saucy story that will bring the patrons in and satisfy the need for sex in a world where the population balance between men and women is completely off and men are hard to come by. This time, she's interviewing the mysterious Tully and the very unique service he provides.

Review
I admit, I bought this book purely based on the fact that it was an erotic short, and since I've been dabbling in that genre a little myself writing wise, I figured I should read a bit of what's out there. This came up on my feed as a free offering and I figured why not.

First and foremost, I am intrigued by the world this novella presents. A large scale uprising left this world with an in-balance between the genders, leaving a setting where harems and eunuchs are very common and women are more likely to find companionship in each other then the few men left around. This was an interesting place to set a story that ultimately talks about a woman rediscovering what love actually is. I was very interested in this world and the problems this sort of society presents, and how that honestly relates.

The problem is, that such an interesting premise actually does the overall story a disservice. It's too short, and there's a lot of questions left unanswered with all the information. I was left with more questions about this world and the scenes that you go to an erotic novella for were really an afterthought in my mind.
