First, let me point out the entire contents of this book are on a government website. Just look up the title. Having said that, I prefer the book. You don't get a feel for the huge number of jobs described by this book when you're looking at it one page at a time on your computer. I force this book on teens when they come into my classroom just so they get a clue about how many different types of jobs are out there that they've never heard of. Plus, the book give the typical day on the job, the working environment, the number of people currently working in that field, a projection of the number of jobs in the future, the current salary range, etc.

If you are a teen or have a teen and job decisions are in your future, this book is essential. I recommend looking at it early in high school so the classes that would help on the chosen job can be taken.

But don't bank on it. For the price it is well worth the money
for you to buy one yourself. The beauty of this reference document
is that it helps you focus on future employment fields & trends
based on statistical data gathered by no other than the Department
of Labor. I believe that they have done a very good job. Updated
annually, well worth the price. It's a reference document that enables
you as a parent to begin the important dialogue with your kids on
what they need to consider when they think about a career and
going off to college to begin the groundwork.
Bottom line: do you want your kids going off to college for the
next 4 plus years majoring in a field that may not offer them some
decent form of employment when they graduate? Or do you want then
returning home to live with you again while they/you try to figure
all this out? That decision is up to you but I know what my answer is
and was.

Bought this for my HS Sophomore because she has no clue what she wants to do and school doesn't do a lot of career exploration. This is so informative. I found it interesting myself. I recommend it for anyone.Easy to ready and gives information about each career including how many jobs there are and what the growth rate is for that career. It also provides extra insight into some additional training you may want to consider for each career to be more employable. Well worth the money.

I used this book while in college in 1995 or so. My grandson is now nearing college and hadn't heard of it so I bought it for him so he could see just what jobs are available and what it takes to get them. He is now recommending it to his classmates! And it was a good deal too on Amazon!

I have three teenage daughters that are trying to decide what they want to do in life. This book has been a good reference for them as there is practically every job imaginable in it and gives a good synopsis of the schooling required, growth rate into the future for the job and the pay range. I would recommend this to anyone who is trying decide their future occupation.

Excellent resource but my lazy son still will not read it. I keep it on the kitchen counter and his friends thumb through it all the time. Guess I'll have to cut him off until he decides to change.
