The game itself is fantastic and a great throwback to the old school and SNES style JRPGs like the early Final Fantasy games.

This edition that I bought is great for big fans and collectors of course. The content for the price is fine for me, but personally my Wayfarer’s Edition came with the pop-up book glued improperly to the case of the contents. Some of the glue also came off some dioramas in the pop book as well. Aside from that I didn’t have much issues with the packaging of my game or the special edition itself. Just kind of wish the pop up book was removable and not glued.

This game is a masterpiece and the Wayfarer's Edition was a must buy for me. I received everything in perfect condition. The cloth map is fantastic and the pop-up book is very charming. The leaf coin has some weight to it too and doesn't feel cheap at all. My only complaint is that they really could have included the full soundtrack and an artbook.

I'm not going to say much about the game. Much has been said already by others. I think it's phenomenal and my favorite RPG behind FF6 and Chrono Trigger.
Let's get into the Collector's stuff:
The Package/Case: It looks good and is designed to resemble an archaic tome. It's sturdy and handsome. The interior is a bland, ugly peanut butter brown though.

Soundtrack: Cd packaged in a standard, flimsy card case. The artwork on the disc is great, featuring all the characters in a wilderness setting with a castle in the background. The disc contains 14 tracks, a fraction of what is in the game, but a pretty healthy list for a CE sampler. All 8 hero tracks are here, as well as 3 standard battle and 2 boss tracks. The music is damned good.

Coin: I was surprised by the quality of this coin. It's thick, metal and heavy with painted gold and on the obverse side is a relief of a lord's head. There are runes circling the edge and a couple of swords on either side of the relief. The reverse side is a maple leaf with a keep's wall above and a pair of swords to either side as well. The coin is 4cm in diameter. Slightly more than an inch and a half.

The Cloth Map: 28.5cmx19.5cm. I was excited for this as cloth maps from pc RPGs of old were a great delight to me. Unfortunately the map of Osterra is a blurry, muddled image which is a shame as the actual artwork (seen in-game) is a gorgeous piece by Francesca Baerald. The other side of the cloth poster is a tavern scene of all 8 characters by artist, Naoki Iskushima. Good thing is, this side looks excellent.

Pop-Up book: The Pièce De Résistance of this edition is the pop-up book and is a mixed bag. It is built into the case which makes it annoying to flip through and somewhat awkward to display depending on which page you would like to display. The art is pixel art straight from the game and it shines. However, the paper is quite flimsy and doesn't serve some of the papercraft designs well. Primrose's diorama being the chief offender as the design of the book and cheapness of the card won't allow the walls in the tavern to flatten properly. It's a mess. There are some really good ones here though. Some are simple, some complex. Therion's requires some work by the admirer to work properly. If you are a discerning pop-up book collector you will be fairly disappointed . I imagine everyone will be disappointed to some degree, particularly with Primrose's piece, but will be delighted by some of the other pop-ups. Also, the materials used in this book could cause some of the pop-ups that aren't crafted properly, or that are shipped poorly, to malfunction.
Summary: it's an okay Collector's Edition. great concept, somewhat flawed execution. Here's some stars!:
Case: **** Sturdy, pleasing aesthetic, but bland interior.
Soundtrack: *** Great tunes, albeit limited selection.
Coin:**** High quality and neato, but.. it's a flippin coin.
Cloth Poster/Map:** Poster is great but i wanted a good map. And the map is blurred to the point of being near indiscernible.
Pop-Up book:*** A couple of standout pieces (Haan'it's and Tressa's) some fair(Alfyn,Olbrecht,Cyrus), a couple nice but clunky (Ophelia's, Therion's) and one disaster (Primrose).
The collector's edition is 3 stars in summary. The game is 4 and a half. 9 out of 10. Just a straight-up banger.

First of all I’d like to say that this game is a masterpiece, and the concept of this collectors edition is flawless. Beautiful artwork and a lot of thought put into the diorama. The coin looks very nice, the cloth map is of d cent quality, and of coarse the game itself is amazing. HOWEVER. The main reason I opted for this 100 dollar collectors edition was the diorama, I’m a sucker for things like that. While I understand anything made out of cardboard is bound to be fragile, multiple scenes in my diorama either do not open or have glue that was already disconnected when I first opened it up. I went and tried to fix one of the scenes with super glue, and realized I had glued the portion together incorrectly which caused it to tear when I went to close it. Overall I’m still glad I bought it, don’t get me wrong. And the horror story review I’ve seen here from other people about the package arriving poorly shipped were not the case with me, but I do feel like for the price there should be a lot better quality control. If you’re an OCD freak like me and don’t want something that isn’t perfect, than save the 40 bucks and buy the standard edition. If you’re okay with a more than likely imperfect diorama, but a gr at soundtrack, collectible coin, and cloth map, which arguably are the only portions of this collectors edition you will use or see more than a handful of times because the diorama can’t actually be propped up and displayed, only open d and looked at like a book, than go with this.

All that aside, do yourself a favor and buy this game in one form or another regardless. Whether wayfarer, standard, or digital, the game itself is an absolute modern work of gaming art.

an amazing game with everything it has to offer from the first purchase, i've finished all the content and i love the difficulty of the bosses if you pace yourself and want a challenge, this game doesn't force you to grind if you strategize and use your parties abilities in conjunction with eachother, there's also some insane combos that are offered with the secondary class system if you apply the main characters class with them. needless to say if you love a final fantasy-esque game you'll love this game. p.s. use every character and try to keep them all a decent level, it'll be useful endgame

It`s good. Really good special edition $99 is a bit high. But if you want fan service for old RPGs this is the edition. Honestly this is the game everything with in the Wayfarer`s edition is bacon it makes everything 100x better. Going though the game and seeing it come to life in the popup book is a bit cool i must admit.

If you love Japan RPG, this game is a gem! The graphic concept is so beautiful, the music is awesome. This game bring so many nostalgic from the 16-bit rpg game era! The story is rich and enjoyable! The wayfare edition music CD is so fantastic, I love the music of this game. The small book is a nice addon as well as the coin.

Aunque es un RPG moderno, se siente y se disfruta justo como lo hacíamos cuando fue el boom de este tipo de juegos en las consolas de 16 y 32 bits.

Es un RPG al más clásico estilo japonés, toman el rol de 1 de 8 personajes para empezar, en el transcurso de la historia podrían ir reclutando al resto de los personajes, digo podrían, porque si se empecinan con algunos cuantos, podrían solo acabar las historias de los personajes que seleccionen y el resto dejarlos para después u otra vuelta.

Es un RPG por turnos, y con distintos trabajos que le dan a los personajes distintas habilidades y usos de armas, la estrategia consiste en qué trabajos y personajes utilizar en las batallas.

Para empezar puedo decir que no estaba interesado en el juego en un principio, vi unas cuantas reseñas y dije bueno vamos a ver qué tal, y me fui directo con esta edición especial. Este juego es todo lo que un fan de los RPGs de 16 bits estilo FFVI puede desear. El gameplay, la música, las historias de cada personaje, los ambientes y la posibilidad de explorar a tu gusto hacen que todo en conjunto sea un bello juego. Hay muchas mecánicas pero todo se siente fluido y con rapidez. No hay momentos que se sientan realmente aburridos. Definitivamente contendiente para juego del año. Ahora en cuanto a la edición, todo lo que trae es excelente, lo único que es qué hay ediciones que están saliendo un poco flojas en cuanto a ensamblado del contenedor (libro). En mi edición la parte donde viene la moneda se despegó e hizo que la moneda viniera suelta, he escuchado otros errores como que los imanes son débiles y hacen que la caja no cierre. Pero si son detalles minúsculos considerando el gran contenido de cosas y la calidad del videojuego.

Desde que anunciaron el juego yo me enganché, jugué la demo y ahora disfruto de la versión completa. El arte es hermoso y también lo es el soundtrack, no te cansas de escucharlo. La forma en la que decidieron hacer el juego, los personajes a forma de 16 bits y el fondo en 3d me voló la cabeza desde el anuncio. Es un JRPG, por turnos y si eso no es lo tuyo, dudo mucho que éste te guste. La edición especial contiene un libro/diorama con los personajes jugables, una moneda que representa la divisa del juego, un mapa de tela (lo que menos me gustó) a doble cara, el juego y un "Sound selection".

Easily Nintendo Switch's best RPG game. With 8 playable characters, class, sub class, main and side quest, this title has more in stock that any other.

The Wayfarer's Edition includes a small, but tissu map that will last long and sturdy. A music CD, sound selection from the game : Main theme of Octopath plus each of the 8 character's theme plus battle songs (5). for a total of 14 tracks. You also get a "real" metal leaf coin. The same currency used in-game. And the book is your box for all these items. It is split in 2 sides, one for the content and the up side of the box for the pop up artwork, again, one for each character (representing him/her in one of its main story background). Last, but not least, the game itself, full cover (no scan bar) included in the box. Note that each side inside it well separated and magnetic clip prevent them from mixing and moving inside.

The good thing about this is that the Wayfarer's Edition is shipped and sold inside a plastic box that will leave all of your special edition intact. Good thinking!
