Review

"...rich with captioned photographs...introduces the creatures of the sea with clear, graceful writing." -- National Science Teachers Association website - May 18,2006

From the Publisher

Did you know that octopuses are thought to be the most intelligent invertebrates? You can stare at an octopus and it may stare back at you--something you can't do with any other invertebrate. You probably wouldn't give a clam a name. It's an animal that really doesn't have much personality! But octopuses, fellow mollusks, have been given names by their keepers in aquariums because they do sometimes seem to possess distinct personalities. Octopuses can also morph into almost any shape and change their color to match practically any background. They really are the superheroes of the undersea world!

A terrific book for young readers. The text is well written and also informative. It doesn't just repeat the basic information you could find on the web. The pictures are fantastic, and the book is very professionally put together. The reading level is about right for a six to eight year old. I'm only sorry that a lot of this author's books are out of print now.

Easy reading, nice photographs... introduces the cephalopods to kids from 7 to 9 y/old. Descriptions are short and clear, and the book answer the key basic questions regarding cephalopods. What are they? How they live? Wich different species are today? Reccomended.

5.0 out of 5 stars sqid obsessed daughter + amazon = this perfect book

I bought this book as a gift for my daughters seventh birthday, she has an obsession with squids and finding a book that was aimed at children and that wasnt just about octopuses was proving difficult. Thankfully i found this, it covers lots of topics on both octopuses and squids from hunting to camouflage it gives details on the different types of squids and octopuses, sizes and features.the pictures are bright and interesting and the information given is facinating and keeps my daughter happy and occupied, she sits for hours reading it and its usually her bedtime book! i can gladly say its a great read thats ideal for children that are interested in the less popular of our tentacled friends.
