Editorial Reviews

Review

"I've been waiting for Flynn Caldwell for months. I know that doesn't seem like long, but in Hot Book Guy Years, that's a while. Author Sawyer Bennett has a way with her guys, and Flynn Caldwell was no exception." - Andrea, The Bookish Babe

"The prologue of this book will grab your attention in epic fashion; yes I was white knuckling my kindle from gripping it so hard!" - Denise, Shh Mom's Reading

"Flynn & Rowan prove that love is like friendship on fire"
- Amy, The Reading Realm

"What starts out as a friendship will become a timeless love. Sawyer Bennett is a gifted writer. She is one of those writers that delivers a story that seems effortless. Her writing is magical. I highly recommend this book and series." - Michel, Hesperia Loves Books

I could not connect with the characters or the story line. Flynn was a great character; all heart, all american, all fireman-hero fantastic. I loved his back story and what lead him to his profession. Out of all the heroes in this series, Flynn was the least alpha, but his overall do-good, protect the weaker, self sacrificing and unlimited ability to adapt made up for that in my opinion. Until it came to his reaction to Rowan. Rowan is where my problem with the story sat. I didn't like couldn't stand her. She may have had the whole poor-me, neglected-little-rich-girl thing going on and her father was pathetic self-absorbed idiot, but that was no excuse for her behavior or decisions. And I could not get passed them. I could not like her because of them. She sold herself cheaply and was a knowing accessory to drug trafficking, staying with that trash for almost a year before moving on, not because she saw it as wrong, but because it wasn't benefiting her. She had no remorse, just a "What about me" never ending whine. I didn't feel she was forced into any of this by her rebellion against not having enough attention from mommy and daddy. I just saw her as sleazy. She simply had no morals or values. She was a replica of her self-absorbed and emotionally corrupted father. Coming off all of the other books in this series with real issues of human sacrifice and subtle nobility of unappreciated heroes, this did not fit. Flynn's praises for her strength and ability to survive were hollow. She endured nothing more that what she deserved. And she absolutely did not deserve Flynn, or the friendship from anyone in the series. I felt almost betrayed by the author for lowering the series by including her. And she did nothing throughout the story to redeem herself.Read more ›

I LOVED Off Chance.

While I've enjoyed the entire Off series, Off Chance is officially my favorite.

What I liked: Off Chance was different than everything I've read recently. While there is the to-be-expected yummy Caldwell men, the situation is very different. The prologue was heartbreaking, and I of course understood Flynn right away because of it.

Rowan has such a captivating strength, and so much fight, I adored her. She wasn't perfect, she made mistakes, but everything about her seemed real and genuine.

I also loved seeing more of our favorite characters, and the epilogue! Oh, oh! OH! The Epilogue was AWESOME. OMGOMGOMG level awesome.

What I didn't like: This just can't be the last Off book. It can't, because I enjoy this series so much, I will always want more. Fortunately, it seems that there may BE more, so I don't really have anything not to like. YAY.

This was not the ending to Sawyer Bennett's series that I was expecting. The first half of the ebook I was starting to get annoyed because nothing was happening between Flynn and Rowan yet. I waited until the weekend to read this ebook and was really dis-appointed at the story line and all the back and forth of "should I be with Flynn, YES I want Flynn, NO we should just be friends, YES I want Flynn, wait, NO I'm damaged I should not ruin Flynn's life" blah blah......I could not feel the connection between the H & H in the ebook (even Rowan's back history sounded like she was a spoiled brat, I know that she wanted attention from her parents but it just didn't seem real for me, something was off for me.) I could not wait for it to end and that's not good since I really love the writers "OFF Series".(note: I'm glad that the writer brought the other couples into this story.)
Now for the ending....it had a nice epilogue but I felt bad for Linc's and Ever's part in the epilogue, is there going to be a "catch-up" to what has happened since the series ended? ***SPOILER*** the ending is 4 years later but Linc and Ever are not pregnant yet but everyone else has either had a child or are on their second one....and Rowan told Flynn that she would love to be a surrogate for them if they were to ask...WHAT KIND OF AN ENDING to the series is that?

I liked all the books in the "off" series, the main characters are fun, unique, likable, hard-working, and it is easy to relate to them and their struggle. In this one, it was really hard to relate to (or root for) the main female character. She was a bum whose ex is a drug dealer and reacts like a criminal thug when police try to interview her after she is found tied to a bed.

I don't know, I liked the main male character enough but did not get why he would be attracted to this girl. After the first 20%, I did not want to read more about Rowan, did not care about her enough to even try- which is rare for me because I usually push myself through books no matter what. Would have given it a 1 star because of her character but since I did not finish, I gave it the benefit of a doubt.

Based on all the 5 star reviews I couldn't wait to read the story of Flynn and the woman he fell for, but I couldn't get into this book. I liked the beginning but started to skim through most of the book hoping it would get better. The only chapter I liked was the trip and that's because of Nix.
