This book is a matter-of-fact look at how to eat, drink and be merry... off the grid. Beginning with equipment that could be utilized, the book takes you through the process of feeding yourself when the comforts of home are not available. Touching on everything from purifying water to canning your own vegetables, this book would come in handy for the regular camper or hiker.
This is the third book I have read by Danny Gansneder and I look forward to more. His insightful look at every day situations will make you think... while you learn so much! In the last book, I got a look at how to grow my own organic veggies. Now, I'm learning how to prepare them. Plus, this book is full of recipes. Fantastic find. I will be sharing this book with friends.
It also has a section on water purification the how and why water is so important in an emergency situation.
The next section starts enumerating the proper equipment needed for cooking outside the grid. Has a brief explanation on making fire and the elements you need for it.
It gives examples of plants you can grow at home and very helpful tips on what to plant together for best use of the soil. It goes into specific details on each vegetable, how to plant; water it, amount of sun etc.
It also has a section on preserving and canning different types of foods (this part is my favorite) and to top it all of it has a bunch of recipes you can make at home in your yard or outdoors.
Definitely a great and helpful book for the outdoor lover.
