Editorial Reviews

"Off The Record is rich with romance, heartache, hot sex, and characters you can root for." -- NYT and USA Today Bestselling Author Lauren Blakely

"I have to say, Sawyer Bennett wrote the hell out of this book. The Off Series, and Sawyer Bennett have joined my list of favorites." - The Bookish Babe

"Sawyer provides great reading experiences. Her writing is so spot-on that I connect with her characters and get lost in the story. With every story I find connections to some part of my own life. Isn't that what makes reading meaningful? The Off Series is one that I will happily come back to again and again. It just doesn't get any better than this." -
A Tale of Many Reviews

This was the first book I've read by this author. The story revolves around a reporter with major trust and abandonment problems and a hockey player who agrees to an interview at a party at his house. He is a single guy who is a player with lots of girl friends. After the interview, she overhears women talking about having sex with the hero and then she walks in on him having sex with a guest. Her opinion piece turns into a scathing review of his morals. He turns up at the newpaper with a lawyer and insists that she follow him around 24-7 and rewrite the story or he is suing the paper. He is a man trying to prove he's an okay person. This story, although about a hockey player, has no information on hockey or the NHL. In this case the author could have picked any sport if she wasn't going to discuss the sport. The story, however, is filled with very graphic and hot sex scenes over and over and over again. And if you like that as a main story segment, you will like this book. I felt it was overdone. The heroine has issues and I found I could not feel the connection between the characters even with the numerous sex scenes. One thing that bothered me a lot, was the male point of view. It was too female in the way it was written.
Not sure I want to read another book by the author.

I've enjoyed this author in the past. Her books are great when I'm in the mood for a fun, fluffy read so I was greatly disappointed when I couldn't get halfway through this book. Linc Caldwell hotshot hockey player agrees to an interview by newbie reporter Ever Montgomery. They meet up at a house party Linc is throwing for his teammates and their families. Linc is immediately attracted to Ever and flirts shamelessly throughout the interview. He asks her out but she declined even though she is attracted to him due to previous work commitments. Later, during the party Ever overheard some women boasting about having relations with Linc, then she remembers he was surrounded by skimpily clad women when she first saw him. Just then she spies him making out with a woman in his bedroom. She is disgusted and the situation brings back memories of her man whore dad who left her heartbroken as a kid and her ex fiancee who she caught banging a good friend. So, Ever does the single most immature and reckless thing I've ever read in my romantic fiction. She, a professional reporter, working for reputedly professional paper decides to put her career on the line by venting her displeasure at Linc's man whoring ways by writing an article full of hearsay, half truths and conjectures. So this was my main and only problem with this book, the heroine. In my opinion the article she wrote was not only full of lies but immature and unprofessional . Who the heck puts their entire career on the line just because their pride was hurt? An idiot that's who. I could have probably have gotten over her too stupid to live actions until she got called on her lies by Linc in front of her boss and while inwardly admitting she pretty much made the whole thing up, refused to accept responsibility and apologize.Read more ›

When I saw this book go up a couple of days early, I did a happy dance. I have been wanting to read it since I first heard it was in the works. I was intrigued by Linc when I read Off Limits, which focuses on his brother, Nix. I snagged this book as soon as I saw the link. I was so hard to put down when real life called. Needless to say, I read it within 24 hours of buying it. Yes, it was that good.

I loved watching Ever and Linc as they went from a work commitment to a crush, to hatred, to lust to love. Yep. They ran the full spectrum of emotions. Was the premise of how they got together a bit silly? Yes, but I forgot about that within a few pages because the the thoughts and emotions of Linc and Ever was so engaging that I got swept into the story. This story was not just about their love story. It was also the story of how Ever came to accept her past and move on and that might have been the most powerful part of the story.

While we got to see Emily and Nix again, you do not need to know their story in order to read and enjoy this book. If you love steamy love stories, hot hockey players with a soft heart, the power of forgiveness, and a fun unputdownable read then this book is probably for you. The only thing I wish was in this book that was not, was I wish that Linc had reflected on when he asked Emily out in Off Limits. It does not change the story at all. I was just curious.

***3.5 Stars***
What I love about this series is the deep love and devotion these men feel for their women (all except for the irredeemable Cillian O’Braidagh in book four whom I despised.)

Ever Montgomery was betrayed and abandoned by her father when she was young. She has allowed that to affect every area of her life in a negative way. She is incapable of forming relationships and fears any man she would become involved with will abandon her like her father did. After all, she wasn’t important enough for her father to maintain a relationship with her when she was his flesh and blood, how could she ever keep a man. She can spot a liar from great distance and this has made her a very good reporter.

Lincoln Caldwell is the very hot goalie for the New York Rangers. He’s gorgeous, carefree and loves to throw parties at his place and get women into bed, or against the wall, or bent over the dresser get what I’m saying, right?

Ever publishes an article about Linc that was supposed to be off the record. They had talked earlier in the evening at a party he was throwing and he showed interest in her and asked her out on a date. A little while later she went upstairs to visit the restroom and heard some things she shouldn’t have. Since the restroom was not vacant she was going to use the one in the master bedroom. After all the door was left partially open. But when she started to enter there was Linc going at it with a woman up against the wall. Ever was appalled that he could have shown interest in her just a short time ago and was now having sex with another woman. A scoundrel just like her father. Unfortunately, this was also touched upon in her article and Linc was furious.
