Why am I just finding out about this amazing author? This book was absolutely wonderful, a little heartbreaking and totally sweet, romantic and inspiring.
Can't wait for Toni and Mike's story! This book hit the ball out the park, sans the issue with grammar. It should've been looked over by another editor, but it is understandably indie and in the BW category with a IR LatinX hero, what a hero!
The heroine veered towards sinking, but she is lovable and real in the most difficult way. This book balanced out the realities of life and the sweet fantastic elements of romance, the HEA is kinda up in the air, for now, hopefully we'll find out more about Deja and Alejandro with the intro of the next friends.
Thanks for sharing your amazing work Ms. Katrina! Love a sweet, sexy read look forward to more of your work in the not so distant future!
The premise of this delightful romance is that Deja is a highly stressed out black Sociology professor still on her probationary period on a tenure track who is just barely holding on and feels in a rut. The only bright spot is her regular sightings of her crush, newly-tenured History professor, Alejandro, who unbeknownst to her also has a crush on her. But will Deja allow herself the luxury of finding joy in her life when her entire focus is on coping with the towering stress of her job.
This book is for anyone who has ever struggled with being too hard on themselves, with worrying about their productivity, with asking for help and coping with high levels of stress and has ever feared allowing love in. I’m half in love with Alejandro myself who is one of the most compassionate, attractive, respectful contemporary romantic heroes I’ve read in recent times. He is respectful of Deja’s feelings, of the challenges she faces being a woman in academia, incredibly supportive and never one to let lust and attraction make him dismissive of her career or her needs.
I thought this book was really great and a really soothing read, my only criticism is that there were some proofing/editing issues with some typos. It wasn’t enough to spoil my enjoyment of what is otherwise a fantastic book, but I do think this romance deserves better editing out of the typos. This is my first book by this author but I definitely don’t plan for it to be my last. I’d also love to see Deja’s friends, Marie and Toni (and Mike!) get books as well. Really good contemporary romance.
