I gave this item 2 stars for the following reasons:
It is made of very thin gauge aluminum, if it is at all. I would say around 22 gauge at best, it is very flimsy to me, one drop and I fear she will be toast. For $30+ I was expecting something more in regards to what I received.
The hinged closure latch uses very weak springs to lock everything in place. I would have liked to have seen some beefeir springs to keep my forms secured. The lid has "unexpectedly" opened on more than a few occasions. Very annoying!
Then my biggest gripe, every edge of this forms holder is nearly as sharp as a razor blade. I have cut myself more than once, nothing bad, more like a paper cut, and we all know how those feel.
If this piece was priced around $15 I figure I got what I paid for and would have given it a better rating. I feel kinda burned by what I actually bought and received. But hey, it does work, you just have to be very careful when handling it so as not to cut yourself or just outright damage it due to the flimsy aluminum and outright poor quality construction. Oh, and be careful where you place this, I can see it snagging your car upholstery or damaging your automotive plastic interior pieces or exterior paint.
If you need one of these I would keep looking. Sadly this was the only one of its kind that I was able to find. Keep searching, as I truly believe that someone manufactures one of these like they used to. I' m still searching, as this one will have to do for now. :(
The aluminum on this is so thin that the back section doesn't stay together well. With any quantity of paper in the back, the hinge bends a bit and the top edge does not correctly line up to close it. I used this forms holder for 2 days before I finally gave up on keeping anything in the back.
I realize this forms holder was not designed for brutal day to day use as a teacher clipboard, but I feel pretty strongly that even in a cushy job involving riding around on the seat of the air conditioning repair van until the moment somebody needs to sign an NCR receipt on a smooth writing surface, there will still be problems storing the extra forms in the back.
On a positive note, I did find my old forms holder, made by Saunders, sitting in the bottom of a box I brought home last year crushed under the weight of 2 cases of canned dog food. It's scratched and covered with sticker residue, but in perfect working condition.
I mainly got it because I'm tough on my bookbag and I would destroy any papers or regular folders. This does the job, but it's deformed a bit to where it doesn't latch right. It a lot more sturdy than I expected for its size and weight, but I wouldn't trust it not to explode when you drop it and blow papers all over. For regular office stuff it's great though.

For the price I was expecting it to be a haeavier gauge aluminum. I will have to wait and see how it holds up before I make a final determination.Published on March 21, 2013 by Aaron Sessoms
