The beauty of reading authors’ first books is finding a writer that has great promise and getting to watch that new writer develop into an author. “The Officer’s House” by Judith Baller-Fabian started out as just a story. It is about a woman in 2009 whose husband goes off to war in Afghanistan and an Army wife in the 1940’s whose husband is stationed at Fort Hancock in Sandy Hook, NJ.
The writer tells the story and it is a bit slow but it is able to hold a reader’s interest. As the tale continues the writer develops set, a bit of a plot, characters and guides the reader through her novel, but at some point, the writer finds her style and begins to lead the reader to discovering the story of these women who share more than imagined. Suddenly the book has an author and as the end nears, the reader is anxious for the sentences to reveal more.
I am happy to give “The Officer’s House” three well-deserved stars. The story is a five star story just waiting for a rewrite. Keep watching for more from this new, talented author.
I won this book through Goodreads Giveaway First Reads Program. I do not know the author.
