The DS Mic headset can be used while playing online with friends. During a battle or trade, two players can speak with each other. They must have each other's friend codes registered for this to work. The advantage to using the DS Mic headset is that you can have a more private conversation (the audio comes through the one earpiece), and the Mic is closer to your mouth. It works with any game that uses voice recognition such as Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version, the Nintendogs series and Metroid Prime Hunters.

Most games you don't need the microphone, however the new zelda games require it at certain points.
The headset works, but it is not perfect. The earpiece is fairly comfortable, however the length of the microphone is too short for me. It does not pick up words when I speak. Luckily, for the games that I play, it just needs sound in general. The microphone rests right against my cheek, and if I hum with my mouth closed, that is enough to pick up sound waves.
All in all: A cheaper alternative to fixing the built in microphone. Perfect for a child or someone with a small head. Adults might like to consider a different headset.
The microphone works fairly well but offers no adjustment. You are better off using a set of headphones and speaking into the on board microphone than spending money on this shoddy piece of merchandise.
