These are a nice balance of weight, price, and appearance. I'd considered doing glass canisters, but didn't relish the idea of weighty glass filled with flour and such, especially since mine are just above eye level. Too heavy and I'd probably have something broken by end of year!
An amazing final touch to my pantry renovation.
We had some canisters and needed more. We compared ours to the photos of these Oggi canisters and we were sure they were the same brand. They arrive unbroken, but in a side-by-side comparison, we find the Oggi canisters to be inferior to the ones we already had. The plastic is thinner, the edges were not polished, the seal rings are about 1/3 as wide and also thinner. The metal hardware is nearly identical. The only advantage to the Oggi brand, besides being a fraction of the price, is the lids are much lighter (thinner plastic) and so don't fall over when there is not much weight in the canister. However, they do work, so far, don't know about the seal. Another person mentioned bugs in their flour, but I'm told that the bugs were probably already in the flour - we freeze ours for a few days to attempt to kill any eggs.
They look nice, seem to have a good seal, and I LOVE the spoons on the side. I took away a star because they were incredibly difficult to open initially - anyone with even the slightest bit of arthritis would have had major difficulty using them. I finally got them to open while running under cold water and pushing as hard as I could. After that, though, they worked beautifully. Definitely recommend, but find someone strong to open them for you the first time. =)
Find out a candy/nut/snack that your jerk coworker, moocher friend, milldly offensive family member, or insanely nosy neighbor likes.
Fill the jar with whatever it is and put a bow on that sucker.
That's it, don't work too hard.
The jars are crystal clear and look great. They seal well and yet the lever to release the lid works incredibly easy. I work with some feeble wristed wimps (old people) and the first thing they all said to me was how easy it was to open and close. Each jar comes with a small spoon for easy portioning that has a loop to attach right on the side. I recently started storing flour and sugar in these as well and they not only keep it fresh and sealed but they look great sitting on my cabinet, no more hiding the ugly tupperware storage containers.
