For the past years, she learn to lie with a straight face from everyone around her whilst living a blissful memories of harmless flings. She went to places, countries she needed to visit for a cosmopolitan sales trip and book fairs, staying in luxury hotels or being taken out to dinner in all the best places in town along with her constant debacle of shenanigans or disapproving tastes of men.
Yes! She felt guilty and ashamed for doing it to Daniel but she loved her job and the perks she's getting from it. She has done her best in every way, even having the problem of pay rise so, serving cakes on her novel-stuffed bookshop cafe sometimes popped out into her head.
From a chunk, hunk of a cake to Boston Cream Pie or Cut and Come Again Cake to Beetroot Cake, will the Cinderella in her could fix her life with book fair balls and a slice of Kate's Ultimate Berry Pavlova?
I have grown to love Kate, fear for her, get mad at her but most of the time, rescue her. Her personal life was in haywire and the battering she had earn from Daniel was unforgivable. So she looked for love on other men, longing for the attention she never had found from him. Oftentimes, I asked why could she just leave Daniel. Then I realized, did she stay to pay the price of her betrayal or did she really loved him so much not to leave him?
Daniel's character was someone like those I've watched from movies — the ultimate villain that crawls poison. He brainwashed Kate, made her small and insecure. He made her believe that she was nothing without him. He was a monster who savaged Kate's confidence with violence and sharp words that cuts until she was more than like a shattered glass. Did he ever knew what she did that she's making her pay the price of her betrayal?
I understand Kate why she have done what she did. She's a prisoner of her own self trying to find an escape route but all she knew was that being a victim will always be her role in this cruel world. She was overpowered by fear that no man could ever love or want her except Daniel. She let him manipulated her with the truth that nothing could ever change in her life. So, she created an opposite identity of herself with an illusion far from her reality.
Oh! What A Pavlova is an engrossing and transcendent novel with a realistic storyline. The characters' inner conflict and the story's transition were well thought with strong, sophisticated written plot and the author's dreamy setting of Glastonbury was perfect.
Isabella May was able to put a cherry on top of a sensitive issue about domestic violence, an underlying story being told about bullying and later the theory of Law of Attraction. This is a story with powerful message putting it on a graceful sequence of events on the life of Kate Clothier. Ending it with a jaw-dropping bombshell, the readers will be left stunned and rock shock.
***Thank you to Isabella May for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!
Sometimes I felt like the time line was all out the place and couldn't work out if It was happening now or in the past.
Saying all that though it's a really powerful book and one I wasn't expecting.
Thanks to TBConFB for my advance copy in return for an honest review. Four stars ✨
This book sheds light on the gut wrenching topic of domestic abuse in a way that draws you into the whirlwind that is Kates’ life. I loved the fact that Kate herself is flawed and far from perfect, which made her relatable and had you wanting to drop some sense into her a few times.
This really is a great read that will keep you glued as it twists and turns and takes you on an amazing adventure!
