Product Description

What is biofilm?

Biofilm is a slime that grows anywhere water is present. The longer biofilm grows without treatment, the more resistant it becomes to cleaning. Biofilm houses and protect bacteria and other contaminants from standard cleaning products such as bleach, dishwasher detergent, sanitizers, and disinfectants.

Why Oh Yuk?

Oh Yuk is designed to remove these nasty contaminants that other chemicals can't, providing bathers with safe clean bath water. Jetted tubs cleaned after each use will have the same low bacteria levels in the bath water as your source or tap water.
Scientific Biofilm Solutions specializes in removing biofilm in all of its diverse environments, from industrial sand filters, to your washing machine at home. This is what we know best.

We bought a house with a jetted tub that had probably never has been cleaned properly. Ever. So there was a LOT to clean here.
We ended up buying many bottles because more stuff kept coming out. We must have run it through 13 or 14 times using a lot more than the amount listed on the bottle (1/4 to 1/2 bottle each time).
Then we called the company and told them what was going on. They said that their product works really well on certain types of grime/biofilms but that we should try running some liquid laundry detergent through, as well. They said the laundry detergent gets rid of different things and that sometimes both are needed.
Well, that did the trick. Sure wish we had known this before spending so much money on this product, but now finally our tub lines are clean.
The Oh Yuk does get stuff to come out that other things we tried like bleach did not remove. That said, the best strategy is probably to run the laundry detergent through first, then use the Oh Yuk afterwards for anything remaining.

My wife told me we had to really clean what appeared to a clean tub. We moved into a house where the previous home owners were not the best cleaners. She had me get this product based on reviews. My one complaint is the label needs to be bigger. OH YUK is not enough. OH YUK YOU MIGHT BARF might be better. I think someone had a bowel movement in my bath tub plumbing and this is the only product that takes it out. It appears we have 7 years of crud in the pipes. The feces colored film that this products gets out of your pipes will make you a believer. The first use it released so much toot film that we felt like we needed to have another round of cleaning. After losing a bet I had to stick my hand in the water to drain it. Wiping off all the released film we filled the tub again. Just turning the jets the water seemed to be clear. However before I was going to ever get into this thing I wanted to do a second round of YUK treatment. Once again in full force it appeared that someone had the squirts in tub as sludge came flowing out of the pipes. We're going to have to run this a few times before we use the tub. Remember those pink tablets that you use to get in grade school to show you all the plaque that was on your teeth..... The product is like that for you tub.

PROS

1. It works

CONS

1. It works
2. You have to put your hand in and drain water
3. You might need a bucket to barf into
4. You probably will never get into a hotel hot tub again

OH YUK is the perfect name for this product. We bought a previously owned home and the prospect of using the jetted tub without a really good cleaning was daunting. I hunted all over the Internet and saw this product and recommendations for it. Well, it's pricey but - Oh YUK! - the nasty brown film that came out of the jets when I added the cleaner confirmed my decision. I ran a full clean and then a maintenance clean and now I use the tub and this product regularly.

The product works well, BUT - from what I can tell, the 16 ounce size seems to have instructions based on maintenance after the initial cleaning. The instructions on this size call for 2 ounces in a tub with jets running for 15 minutes. My husband and I followed the directions to the letter, but we kept getting the large black flakes. Frustrated, I did some research online and found a video on YouTube put out by the company that states that the initial cleaning calls for 8 ounces in a tub with jets running for 60 minutes. We were fine after that, but I just wish I wouldn't have wasted all those 2 ounce runs. I feel like the company mislead us and should have had both sets of instructions.

I purchased this after reading about bacteria in hot tubs/spas/jetted tubs.
I have a jetted tub in my bathroom and wanted to start using it since it is winter and very cold here.
In the past, I have used bleach and Cascade Platinum powdered dishwasher detergent to clean my jetted tub - a few times a year I would run the tub with this mixture with fairly good results.
After reading about the bacteria, I did some research and came across information on "biofilm". After reading further, I started googling cleaners that would remove the biofilm and found Oh Yuk as well as several others.
Since the Oh Yuk was available on Amazon and I was ordering several other items from Amazon at the time, I went with the Oh Yuk. I used it for the first time today.
I was expecting large chunks of black gunk to come out, which, fortunately did not happen.
However, what did come out was a grayish/green slimy "goo" which clung to the sides of my tub while running the Oh Yuk through the system. I followed the directions on the bottle, but used more Oh Yuk than the recommended 2 oz since it was my first time using it. I probably used @ 6 oz.
Filled tub over jets first, then turned jets on, then added Oh Yuk. Let it run for an hour, drained, and cleaned tub surfaces with Comet cleaner and Chlorox wipes. The grayish/green slime was like a ring around the tub - it was pretty gross and took two rounds of the Comet/Chlorox wipes. Then I rinsed the tub thoroughly with clean water, and re-filled the tub with clean water and ran jets again for about 20 minutes.
This was pretty eye opening for me since I thought my tub's jets were pretty clean.
I will be using this once a month from now on to maintain clean jets.
The price is good, and I feel safer using the tub now!
