Calibration weights are used to measure the weight or mass of an object using a balance or scale, or to calibrate other weights or instruments. Calibration weights can be certified or uncertified. Certified weights meet strict guidelines for accuracy and can usually be recertified. Certified weights are used in labs where a high degree of accuracy and repeatability is required. Uncertified weights are used where a lower degree of accuracy is required, including student laboratories, rough weighting operations, and measuring force. Hooked and slotted weights are often used to measure pressure, torque, and tensile strength, and to demonstrate basic laws of physics. Calibration weights differ from lab weights, which are general purpose weights used to hold an object in place, similar to a paperweight.
Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom projects. After receiving, I was a little taken aback by the fit and finish, they are a tad rough. But as far as accuracy on what they weigh - I weighed them on my .01g accuracy scale, and all three are within plus or minus .02g. Pretty good since the Triple Beam is .1g accuracy.
A note to potential buyers: The two 1000g weights are actually 295g, and the 500g weight is 147.5g. Some might be surprised by that - and it is not clearly spelled out in the ad. This is because the 1000 and 500g rating are based on what the equivalent weight would be as a COUNTERBALANCE when mounted on the Triple Beam - and not what the actual weight of the piece itself is. So anyone expecting to get two 1000g and one 500g calibration weight, don't be surprised when they weigh 295g and 147.5g respectively!
Overall five stars because at the end of the day, they do what they claim to well withing the 0.1g accuracy of the scale they work with! Fit and finish is not five star, but not enough for me to ding the rating.

The product is wonderful. But, I only wish there had been some instructions about how they are to be correctly used.Published 10 days ago by handyman1
