From my experience (using it everyday in my office for 4 months), it just not at all user-friendly.

It's hardware is great but it's very cumbersome and complicated to simply use. It feels like beta firmware.

In practice, it lowers productivity - people at my office constantly have to ask me how to send a fax and scan documents.

It's nested sub-menus and user-prompts make otherwise very simple tasks overly complicated, cumbersome, and time-consuming. For instance, faxing to a pre-programmed number literally requires 9 button presses, using 5 different buttons, while navigating a series of user-prompts and sub-menus.

Programming a number into the address book requires a tech person -- I'm the only one at my work that can program fax numbers into its address book. The same kind of story applies to basic scanning and initial set up.

Our 10 year old cheep-o multifunction fax was much faster in terms of user interface and basic functions (not in terms of printer speed but in terms of using the device).

We've been using it extensively for about 4 months. It works and gets the job done. It has a lot of potential, I think, to be a great machine for our office -- it just really needs a firmware update.

Feels like beta firmware.

Personally I'm a power-user and very into tech. So I can manage it (with mere annoyance), but regular office people at my work are yelling and pulling their hair out using this machine.

Note, it allows you to set-up macros to simplify complex tasks. However, to send a fax, using 5 different buttons with 9 button presses in total is about as simple as it gets, regardless. Using a macro to send a fax actually adds another layer of complexity to the process.

Been using this printer for over 4 months. It's good but a key issues is it is NOT user-friendly at all. It has very cumbersome and complicated firmware and software - not built for people. It feels like beta firmware.

In every day operations, compared to our 10 year old cheep-o multifunction fax, this printer has actually lowered productivity (not in terms of printer speed but in terms of using the device). We use the fax a lot (all day sometimes) and people at my office repeatedly have to ask me how to send a fax and scan documents. They can't seem to learn it.

The issue is chiefly with navigating nested sub-menus and user-prompts in order to perform very simple tasks. For instance, faxing to a pre-programmed number literally requires 9 button presses, using 5 different buttons, while navigating a series of user-prompts and sub-menus.

Programming a number into the address book essentially requires a tech person. I'm the only one at my work that can program fax numbers into its address book. The same kind of story applies to basic scanning and initial set up.

Honestly, we are very disappointed in it because it's specs are so good. And it does have a lot of potential to be a great machine for our office. It just really needs a firmware update (which hasnt happened yet, and if it does there's no telling if it will fix the issues or not).

At this point, unless you are tech savvy and enjoy running through many user promts I would look elsewhere. I'll update this review if this ever gets addressed in the future.

Overall, this is a capable unit. My primary value in this MFP is the extensive capabilities - including scan-to-email servers, ftp, etc. If you have a unique need, this unit is most-likely capable. In our business situations, we've used a few competitive models, that simply didn't have the capability to configure for our specific email server. This unit has been able to do anything asked of it.
Another reviewer mentioned it not being user-friendly. While I could agree somewhat - that there may be a few extra steps with the nested menus, and a couple not-obvious steps (such as going back one button after a selection to "activate" it), I don't think it's as bad as the review states. The other user may not be aware that there is both a web-interface (if network connected) as well as a software application that can help program the device. You can import contacts and configure almost any setting with the web-interface and a computer/keyboard interface.
The primary complaint I have is toner dump. We don't use Oki-branded toners, but I've heard similar complaints from users that do. It could also be the sheer amount of printing we do, but we've had other units without this problem. Overall, it's not a big deal, but there is a imaging "window" through which the light passes to create the image. The toner dump covers this window which creates light spots/bands on the printout. A simple cloth wipe across the window resolves the problem, but it is an annoyance.
The cost is usually around $500 which is a bit high in my mind. If you don't need all the features, you can probably find comparable units for half price. Most won't be able to do everything this one does. Because of the price and maintenance, I give it 3 stars. Otherwise, it's a good unit.
