The Okuma Avenger "ABF" baitfeeder spinning reel reflects a refinement and precision that is the culmination of a decade of research and development. It is a unique combination of tournament grade spinning reel and Okuma's patented live line bait feeding system. The Avenger "ABF" series puts a new spin on the traditional world of reels, and more importantly, what can be expected from them. Quite simply, these are ultra smooth, precision crafted reels. The light weight CNC machined spools are fitted with super smooth oil-soaked felt washers. The reel features six sealed ball bearings, for smooth operation. The Avenger ABF uses Okuma's live bait feeding system. The easy-to-reach lever (located on the body behind the handle) disengages the spool to allow the line to run freely. The tension of the free spool can be adjusted with the rear adjustment (which looks and works like a rear drag). The bait feeding system allows a fish to pick up the bait and run without feeling the drag of the reel. When you are ready to set the hook, you flip down the baitfeeder lever to engage the drag, and the conventional front drag takes over.
The Avenger ABF Series of Baitcasting Reels are known for providing a combination of quality construction, great performance, and affordable value. Okuma's patented baitfeeding system allows for disengagement of the spool and free-running line without opening the bail. Predators are allowed to pick up a bait and run with little resistance as they commit to eating--in order to provide a solid hookset. With a turn of the handle, the spool and drag system engage to set the hook and fight the fish. Coming in sizes 20 through 90 to accommodate most applications, from walleye to catfish--and--stripers to rockfish, this series has most baitcast anglers covered.

Avenger's On/Off Auto Trip Baitfeeding System:
Okuma's Avenger baitfeeding system allows anglers to disengage their spinning reel spool and allow their bait to run freely. The baitfeeding system incorporates a secondary, micro-adjustable drag system at the rear of the reel that allows for precise adjustment of the spool for bait control. In order to disengage this system, simply turn the handle. The On/Off lever on the rear of the reel will automatically disengage the baitfeeding system so you can fight your fish with the main drag system.

-The second "spare" spool is not metal, but plastic. Don't expect to run braid on anything but the primary spool. (UPDATE: The plastic on the spool is surprisingly good. I still wouldn't run braid, but it's not as bad as feared)
-Other reviewers have stated this, but the clicker really isn't very loud. I was skeptical of these reviews as I had no expectation that it would match the sound of a good baitcaster, but they aren't kidding. It's perfectly serviceable, though, as long as it's not a particularly windy day. (UPDATE: maybe I've just "tuned into" the sound, but it's seems to be louder after a couple uses)
-Make sure you check the screws when the reel arrives. The bail screw on mine was a little loose. Nothing a screwdriver couldn't fix and it hasn't loosened up at all since. (UPDATE: still hasn't loosened)
+The "baitfeeder" feature is fantastic, and works as advertised. For trout especially, cast a floating bait rig out and flip the baitfeeder switch. It keeps tension better than leaving the bail open but the fish will feel absolutely nothing as they take your bait, then all you have to do is set the hook and reel 'em in.
+Very smooth retrieve and as good a cast as you can really ask for. The "infinite anti-reverse" is amazing, too.
+It feels very sturdy and yet elegant - it easily matches the "feel" of reels 3 times the price.
We were going on our annual saltwater fishing trip and I wanted a bigger reel than what I had on previous trips. I wanted something that would hold a lot of line, be durable, and have options.
What I liked about it:
I paired it with a large (7') catfish rod and the two items worked well together. I strung it with 65lb braided line. Casting was smooth and retrieval wasn't a workout. On the first trip, I set it up with the closed bail / minimal drag feature and walked over to get a bell to put on the rod. In that amount of time, a 36" ray took off with the bait. I picked up the rod (which would have gone over the rail had it not had that feature), checked the drag, turned the crank and had an awesome fight for a while. Once I got it to the surface, we cut the line and let it go. Next cast was right back to work without a hint of having just had a significant workout.
I've only used it on one multi-day fishing trip so far, but it performed beautifully for the entire trip. So far, no complaints.
If that's normal, fine, but I've had a couple ABF-65's and I don't remember that being the case.
Once I get it out on the lake, I may alter this review.
As a setup the balance of the two feels great.
Gears are smooth, retrieve rate is good.
I have 50 lb braid spooled and the setup casts great.
So far this year the combo has pulled in several Bull Redfish in the 35 - 44 inch range.
One large shark got on the rig earlier in the year. The fight lasted 25 mins until the braid gave way.
Until the braid broke I have to say the equipment performed flawlessly. The drag was smooth and performing adjustments on the fly was easy.
I don't use the bait feeder system much to be honest. There is usually too much ocean motion.
It is useful when you are setting up your rod and reel.
After nearly 6 months of weekly use the reel has held up well. Regular rinsing and lubrication helps.
