When I was shopping for this strop, I did see products of some liquid or paste stuff that was inended to rub on the strop. Never saw my old barbers do thst so I did not
add it to my list. Maybe.....I should have.
Here's my basic experience with this strop: I opened it, took it out of the packing, and used a nail to hook it onto. Then I stropped the blade about 25 times each side. I tested it and it ws much duller than before I stropped it. Uh oh! I then tried to used the white (rough) side before using the leather strop. Same effect, duller than before. I have one of those precision sharpening rigs and I can get it on -- or pretty close to -- a shaving edge on that. I was counting on this strop to perfect that shaving edge, not remove it.
Since I am still not sure what I did wrong, I did not want to review it. I did not contact the vendor/manufacturer for the same reason. FIgured I'd just eaten that cost. The varnish-looking finish on the new strop was removed when I tried several times to put that fine edge on the knife. Now, the strop looks like a leather belt, rough out. Tried that, but the knive still comes out with less edge than when I started.
Any suggestions, now that you've brought this up?
