From what I have read, this volume by Doyle is a worthy companion to this excellent series regarding French history, from the early Medieval period to 2002.

Concise, Accurate & Worthwhile

I must admit that I did expect this book to be a little longer but upon viewing its content there was no reason for it to be. After all it is a "short" Oxford history and every significant event/information is considered in this edition. It accurately covers economics, society, culture, politics, foreign affairs and the three kings during the period of 1648-1788 in Old Regime France.
I would certainly recommend this book to anyone with a strong interest in this most significant and fascinating history of one of Europe's most influential nations, La Belle France.
