Charming nostalgia

Silhouettes were the Next Big Thing from their introduction in 1759 till the invention of the photograph. In the 1920s and '30s they came back in style for illustrational purposes, and this book collects nearly 700 examples of the art. Some are simple classic blackform silhouettes; some are complex combinations of black and white cutwork; some fall somewhere in between. Subjects range from flowers to wild and domestic animals to family and humorous vignettes, which in turn range from Medieval and pre-Columbian to Colonial times (a lady in an amazing spotted gown at her spinning wheel) through the 19th Century (a mother and daughter take the air in an open victoria) to contemporary subjects (women at their household tasks, children playing or celebrating holidays, people walking down the street). Some of the detail work is amazingly delicate. As a writer, I take great pleasure in paging through it and trying to think of ways to incorporate the scenes into stories. You might prefer to scan or copy them (I suggest a handheld wand scanner) for crafting purposes. Whichever use you make of them, it's a very nice collection and one I'm glad I bought.

中は、細かいシルエット絵が、色んなテーマごとに載っています。１ページ毎に一枚載っている形式ではなく、１ページ毎に、沢山のシルエット絵が載っています。（表紙のようなかんじです。）

洋風のシルエット絵をモチーフにした手芸品等を作成している方にも是非おすすめです。

本の状態「可」で格安で購入しました。「良」の物が中古で６０００円以上の値がついているので、２０００円以下で購入できたのは嬉しいです。（新品が５万円以上で出ています…）しかし、やはり状態は「可」でした。ページが破れているのが３ページ。（破れた部分はちゃんと挟んでくれていました）ページが半分に折れていたり、本上部の変色などもありましたが、イラストを見るだけなら使える状態です。３倍以上の値段で「良」を買う位なら、少々破れや変色があっても私にはこちらで十分でした。
