Editorial Reviews
Review
"As much a touching examination of aging and loneliness as it is a witty tale of sexual shenanigans during Provincetown's Bear Week, Wayne Hoffman's new novella, An Older Man, is a real delight." - Jeff Mann, author of Cub and Salvation
"An Older Man is a bear-hug of a book that is equal parts burly bouquet of bear culture, a love letter to Provincetown, and a sexy story about our hirsute hero Moe's quest to find 'the one.'"
-- Gregg Shapiro, author of Lincoln Avenue

An easy read that includes aspects of a gay man ageing and dealing with what this might mean for him sexually. I particularly liked the diversity of gay characters. Enjoy!

This version of the old younger man chasing the older man trope is well done, and oddly satisfying. It was nice to see a character have some self-doubt to deal with.

delightful and relatively quick romp through Provincetown during Bear Week, as Moe Pearlman, the hero from Hoffman's "Hard," comes back as an "older man" (though some of us have to smirk at the notion of 42 being older, everything is relative, and in the gay community, some say 35 is over the hill). I loved the simple construct of a day per chapter, the slow change that occurs in Moe as he moves from a younger man who everybody always wanted to becoming an older person desired for those very characteristics of being older. A funny dip into the bear sub-subculture, and the sub-sub-sub culture of Provincetown bears. Makes me want to book a vacation to Old Cape Cod. Although this is a sequel to "Hard," you absolutely don't have to have read that book (though I'd recommend it as an "also read") to totally understand "An Older Man." Will someone please tell Spiritus Pizza to turn on their webcam?!

The title caught me first. (I love older men) Therefore I had to read it. Although I've never been to Provincetown, this story made me want to be there. Following the adventures of these guys at Bear Week once again made me want to be the friend walking beside them or having the adventure myself. Most particularly, I know what Moe was feeling. I too have wondered how life will be for me as I become a mid-forties man. Reading along I felt for each of them and wanted everything to turn out "just right". Thanks Wayne for again bringing me into the lives of these beautiful men.

Wayne Hoffman's first book "Hard" is one of favorite books, I'm always revisiting it. I was so excited that now in "An Older Man" we revisit Moe in the present day exploring his experiences at Provincetown Bear Week
I've been fortunate to go to Provincetown Bear Week and Hoffman really nails the setting. Reading it I can imagine myself walking in the steps of the characters. I feel like I'm back with them (and I'm kind of jealous, I want to be there too).
While the narrative of this book smaller in scale compared to 'Hard', I found the book very enjoyable, and would strongly recommend reading it. I love Moe and want to follow him on more adventures.
