Olfa Deluxe Rotary Cutter
- This OLFA Deluxe rotary cutter has it all: comfort, convenience, strength and safety. It is the only OLFA cutter than can accommodate specialty blades — pinking, scallop/peak and wave — for decorative edging. A dual-action safety lock allows for the blade to be locked while in use or locked inside the handle when not in use. No matter how big your project, the ergonomic handle with anti-slip rubber grip will eliminate hand fatigue and stress, while the squeeze trigger allows the blade to self-retract for safety. Use the cutter for fabric, paper, vinyl, tarp, upholstery, fleece, felt and more. The cutter can handle up to six layers of cotton fabric and is ideal for cutting heavy batting. To prolong the blade's life, use it with an OLFA rotary cutting mat.
- Cuts through 6 layers of cotton fabric at once
- Ergonomic handle for comfortable cutting; blade moves to opposite side for left-handed use
- Includes and uses a tungsten steel 45mm rotary blade (RB-45)
- Also fits OLFA pinking (PIB-45), scallop/peak (SCB-45) and wave (WAB-45) blades for decorative edging
- Dual-action safety lock
Curved handle featuring an anti-slip rubber grip helps lessen hand fatigue and stress caused by repetitive cutting.
Broad, Faster Cutting
Ideal for medium to heavy-duty projects and larger areas cutting. Cut larger shapes and thicker materials, or up to six layers of thin materials with accuracy.
Dual-action safety lock allows for blade to be locked while in-use, or locked inside the handle when not in use.
Multiple Blade Options
Fits straight and decorative edge rotary blades. These blades are very popular with crafts and memory book development.

I looked for several key points when deciding which rotary cutter to buy. Since these blades are so super sharp, safety had to be a high priority. I wanted one whose blade fully retracted and provided protection for the blade edge all around when retracted. I also wanted one with anti-slip grips and protection for my pressing index finger in case I accidentally slipped. I sure don't want to run my finger over the top of the blade while bearing down! What an OUCH that would be!
I also wanted the blade to extend and retract via squeezing and releasing of the handle so I did not have to use the lock. This would be safest as then I would not forget to release the lock before putting it down as suggested by the manufacturers. But by the same token, I wanted to still have a lock in case I was doing funny shaped turns and cuts. Without a lock, I would not be able to get in the corners and still have the blade extended nearly as easily. Since any lock would put my finger or thumb near to harms way, it needed to also offer protection to keep my finger or thumb from sliding into the blade.
Having a soft grip handle to prevent fatigue was important, too. Plus, as we age, some of us start to develop arthritis in our hands. I'm not there yet, but if I reach that point, I will not have to replace my cutter with one that is more arthritis friendly if I think and plan for it now.
I like being able to hang things. It makes it super easy to find vs storing in a drawer, keeps things neat and as with this, adds another degree of safety versus reaching around in a drawer sight unseen. This model comes with a nice hook for hanging.
Finally, I wanted a good brand name for warranty, blade replacement and durability. I did not want to invest in a name I did not know and regret it later on. I would rather spend a bit more now and not have to replace it later on and waste that money.
I didn't want a lot, did I. After all my research, I finally decided on this one and have been very happy with my decision. I just don't know why it took me so long to buy one of these in the first place.
2 ½” max with blade retracted x 6 ½” length
Does fantastic straight and clean cuts. Super easy and even fun to use. Makes cutting fabric quick, accurate and easy. Forget scissors. Pair this with a cutting mat and a long straight edge ruler, and you are good to go and go fast.

I highly recommend Dahle 10673 Vantage Cutting Mat, 24" x 36", Black Dahle vantage cutting mats. I picked up a 12x18 and 24x36 on Amazon and they are fantastic.
The only positive about this item is that I like how the blade retracts itself to minimize cutting yourself when you're not using it.
I contacted Cool Japanese Geek expressing my dissatisfaction and a month has passed with no response from them. I rated the seller separately from this review and am only mentioning this here so you can avoid purchasing from this seller. My star rating is strictly for the product itself.
Edit 4/29/2017: I've bought a rotary sharpener kit to try on my new blades and this cutter refuses to cut through 2 layers of fabric. I have to go over it 5+ times. Some areas I go over and over and over with the blade and it still refuses to cut and this is after I have sharpened it. This rotary cutter is so defective it's unbelievable. I'm buying a different brand.
These used to be my favorite rotary cutters, but now they've added these little guards over the red buttons that make it harder to press the button in and out to lock the blade. Inexplicably they placed these little half-moon guards so close to the buttons that it makes it hard to depress the buttons themselves, so hello grinder and off they come. Hate to have to ding up a brand new cutter, but this design is not good.
I understand why they were added, so that when you set the cutter down it keeps the button from accidentally being depressed. But on my old, no-guard cutter I never once had a problem with that.
Still the best rotary cutter out there, but it's frustrating to see something unnecessary added that makes it harder to use the tool.
