I work as a Campus Safety Officer at a local university.
Having a quality, reliable flashlight at my disposal is critical to my job performance as well as my personal safety.
I've had this light for a year and a half now, and it has not let me down a single time.
The three output modes are very convenient, and allow you to adjust the power level according to environment and scenario.
The "low" setting is great for illuminating items that you need to take a close look at. This setting is perfect for checking drivers licenses/ID's.
The "medium" setting is sufficient for illuminating small/medium sized rooms and other areas.
The "high" setting is EXTREMELY bright. Perfect for illuminating big rooms and wide spaces. I also recommend this setting for lighting up the inside of car interiors during traffic stops. When I say EXTREMELY bright, I mean that if you shine this at a white or light-colored wall, and look directly at the center of the beam from a few feet away, the reflection will be bright enough to mess with your vision momentarily. If you are holding a drivers license in your hand and use the high setting to illuminate it, it will be TOO bright to even read. Flash this in somebody's face, even for just a second, and they will be disoriented.
I love the fact that there is a separate "mode" button that takes you through each of the three output levels.
Click the button on the top of the tail cap to turn the light on.
Then click the mode button on the side of the tail cap to go from low to medium to high.
One of the other officers I work with has a 5.11 flashlight without a separate mode button. In order to change his light's output from low to medium to high, he's got to click his main on/off switch repeatedly. Clicking to change modes on his light shuts it off for a brief second, before coming back on at a higher level. I would be extremely annoyed with a light like that, and I'm extremely pleased that the Olight M20S-X Warrior has a smarter design in that regard.
The strobe feature is INTENSE. The mode button on the side of the tail cap functions as an instant strobe switch when the light is off. Again, this is a good feature because it doesn't require you to click through the other modes before getting to the strobe. Simply hit the button and you've got a blinding strobe. To test this out, I had a fellow officer flash the strobe at me from down a long dark hall. Doing this on duty was a bad idea...I was seeing spots for the rest of the shift. So far, I have only used the strobe feature to signal incoming ambulances and fire trucks. I would imagine the strobe feature would be effective in disorienting an attacker in a hand-to-hand scenario, but I have not yet had to use it in this fashion.
The light itself is incredibly sturdy and unbelievably ergonomic. Very comfortable to hold and manipulate. Beveled ring below the tail cap is removable if you want to the body of the light to be slimmer. End of the light is threaded, and the silver beveled ring is removable.
My light came with a plastic battery magazine. Load the batteries into the magazine, load the magazine into the light. The magazine prevents the batteries from rattling inside of the light body, making it quiet to carry around.
My light came in a hard plastic "tool box" type case. Included two batteries, battery magazine, belt pouch, lanyard strap, alternate glow in the dark on/off switch, and some replacement rubber gaskets.
Light is the perfect size for on/off duty carry. I don't use the belt pouch it came with, even though it is high quality. The light is about the length of your standard mini Maglite, but a bit thicker. Light will fit comfortably in the front pocket of tactical style cargo pants, or in the side cargo pocket as well.
If you wear looser fitting jeans, size shouldn't be an issue in using this thing for off duty carry. I wear Levi's 508's, which are somewhat more fitted. When I'm dressed casual, the light goes in the back pocket of my jeans while walking around, and the front pocket while sitting down, and I don't have any issues with comfort.
At first, this light seemed like it would be too big for off-duty EDC...but I got used to it in no time.
Whether I'm working, running errands, doing things around the house/yard, whatever...this light is always on my person.
The most common reaction I receive from people when I'm using the light around them is "Holy cow, what IS that thing?!" because it's so bright.
If you want a well made flashlight that will startle your friends and make your coworkers jealous, that will have your back and save your ass every time...look no further.
The holster and accessories make this light great! It comes with a couple CR123 batteries, a diffuser cap, a lanyard, a magazine for the CR123s so they don't rattle, pretty much everything you might want. The holster is by far the best one I have ever used. It is designed for head-down carry, and so both the strobe and the main clicky switch are readily accessible. The hole is the bottom of the holster means that for momentary use as a guide light, you don't even have to take it out of the holster, which is an awesome feature.
All in all this is a very solid package, and if you want a short to medium range light that is easy to use, this one should be at the top of your list.
The light is well built, hefty but not heavy and the bezel around the light would make a formidable weapon if needed. It comes with a glow in the dark switch cover but getting the light apart to install it has been difficult. I know how but the internal piece that needs to be unscrewed is very tight. Not a big deal but the glowing button would make it easier to find at night. With the brightness levels and the quality, this makes for a good all around flashlight, not to big, not to small, versatile and handy. I will likely buy more as I find the need.
I was wary at first because some reviews complained about the switch and their experiences with the manufacturer, however I did not have any of those problems.
The flashlight is really well made and has some great features I didn't see mentioned anywhere but in the manual. It has 3 brightnesses (10, 110, and 550 lumens) which are selected with the side button while the flashlight is on. The brightness state is remember the next time the light is turned on. I keep mine on 10 lumens, which is bright enough for casual use (like not tripping over kid toys in the dark). The on button can be double tapped to bring the light on at 550 lumens regardless of remembered state (which doesn't change the remembered state). When I need 550 lumens, I generally just turn it on like that. You can triple tap on to get the tactical strobe, or just hold the side button when the light is off.
The belt holster has a brilliant feature I've not seen before: it has a hole in the bottom. This lets the light shine through to the ground, which is fantastic for walking through the house in the dark or wherever else you want to go without holding the light.
I HAVE recommended this light to others!
