I'm not sure what makes this off-set light mount different from the other half-dozen similarly-priced off-set mounts on Amazon, but I like it. The price is right, it's less bulky and heavy than the off-set mount featuring a quick release lever, yet it can still be tightened or loosened without tools if desired. If you want to tighten it with a tool for real security, you can do that too using a small Allen wrench or pin inserted into one of the holes on the knurled knob and tightening.
Works great on a IWI Tavor and securely holds a Streamlight.
Really shocked at some of the ratings and complaints about screws coming loose. Maybe some are just trying to make you buy a more expensive version. There should be a rule that if you didn't buy, you can't leave a review.
1st - It mounted perfectly to my picatinny rail (Solid and flush)
2nd - It holds my 1 inch light and could hold different sized lights if not exactly one inch (but not smaller diameters)
3rd - The screws - LOCTITE!!! There are hundreds of reviews for gun mounts and scopes stating that once you get the item in the position you want to LOCTITE the screws. These items don't have lock washers, so of course when you shoot 30 rounds out of your AK-47 they'll come loose.
The quality on this is solid; all metal construction that is slick but durable which was a concern of mine when buying.
I also had worries about how well the quick tighten/release mechanism worked after reading reviews but again, rumors were only rumors. I can tighten the dial with only my hands and it holds well, it also came with a small alen-key for the screws but it doubles as a stick-in lever for those whose fingers can't grip as well.
I love the fact that it's offset, as it lets me put a small flashlight in (similar to those popular 9-led 3 1/2" aluminum flashlights, that have the on-off button in the rear/bottom) and turn the lights on with my pointer or middle finger when attached to my handgun. (which is what I bought it for, and it sits nicely under the front in one of the two open rail slats.
This model is marked for 1inch diameter, or 25.4mm and fits so; the flashlight I had intended for use with it was a few hairs bigger over so I'll need to get a 30mm or 1.18 inches which should fit better which those few extra hairs.I'll still hold on to this incase I come into a smaller flashlight that fits.
I have a Spikes Tactical M4 with a Trijicon ACOG and used a Surefire G2 NITROLON flashlight, since I had one laying around.
I figured I'd try the surefire first and then see what else I had lying around that is better, but it worked perfect, so I left it.
I was concerned that this would block the scope, or be in the way, but really, it's genius. it tucks out of the way of EVERYTHING.
I mounted it on the front-most slot on the rail which leaves me enough room to crank the end-knob into "ON" (not "momentary")
without hitting the rail-knobs that tighten the ACOG. I'd likely have to remove this from the rail to change the batteries, but I it literally would take 10 seconds, so no sweat there. I used blue locktite on the screws to tighten it onto the light, and it fits the surefire like a glove.
the NITROLON has an aluminum tube, so I was less worried that overtightening would pinch the batteries, but I didn't see any issues,
I went to "snug (plus 1/8th turn) with locktite" over "gorilla strength" though.
I did remove it from my rail and take the batteries out and put them back to be sure, but no hassles.
I didn't mount a remote momentary switch, because I don't feel that is one of my needs. I can touch the "momentary" button on the rear of the light if needed, but it is a bit awkward. maybe i'll rethink this down the road. we'll see.
anyway, back to the mount, it's kick-ass. very solid looking, and surely the light will come apart before this does. it mounts it RIGHT at 11 o'clock and snug down near the BBL without touching anything.Read more ›
