I love the size. I'm the type of person that doesn't want to carry much, and this is much more portable than the bigger dslr's. The image quality can be amazing if paired with a better lens. The kit lens it comes with is fine, but when I started using a Sigma 30mm prime, I was blown away. The zoom lens is definitely nice and can zoom far while still staying sharp. Don't worry about blurry images, because Olympus bodies have built in image stabilization.
The touch screen is very helpful. I don't use it in the menus (the menus can get pretty complicated), but I do use it when taking pictures. All you need to do is touch the part that you want to focus on, then a split second later it'll focus and take the picture.
If you like putting your camera on manual, aperture, or shutter priority and you're worrying about it being hard to adjust settings because there aren't many dials, don't worry. If you just google how to toggle the super control panel, you're set. Adjustments won't be super fast, but changes can be made easily and quickly. I find that I mostly stay on aperture priority then use the dial on the back to adjust the aperture and the fn button on top for iso and it's perfect.
The size is small, but not too small, and I don't mind that it's a plastic body. It's very sturdy, and unless you're very careless with how you handle it, you won't have any problems. The battery also lasts very long taking pictures, but drains quicker while taking videos.
I can't say that I dislike anything about the EPM2.
In short, this is a great camera well worth the money and the fact that it also comes with a zoom lens is a big bargain. To unlock full potential, I recommend getting a great prime lens. If you're wanting an affordable, portable camera with great image quality, please please consider this. You're getting flagship sensor pictures from an entry level camera! I couldn't be more happy with the EPM2.
Here are some pictures that I took using this camera and a Sigma 30mm F2.8 EX DN lens. https://flic.kr/s/aHsjYmtHf9
So far I've taken the camera on one extended photo shoot, and my daughter has taken it to the Philadelphia Flower Show, so these are my initial impressions:
Pros:
* In bright light the images are easily as sharp as those taken with my Nikon D5100.
* This camera is amazingly light and small! It's about 1/3 the size and 1/4 the weight of my D5100, while offering a wider zoom.
* The UI offers just about every control you might want, from scenic modes to full manual.
* Focus has been fairly fast and sure.
* I can't emphasize this enough - the camera is just fun to use. It's a real throw back to small rangefinder cameras of the 60s and 70s.
Cons:
* When shooting JPG, reds can be over-saturated. This isn't the only camera I've had this problem with, but it does mean you'll want to shoot raw when you're shooting roses or other red flowers.
* The 40-150 zoom lens. is not as sharp as the 14-42.
* The zoom mechanism on the 40-150 is quite stiff. It's usable but it can be hard to keep a grip on the camera body while trying to twist the zoom.
Here are a few things I like about the camera:
-The overall image quality is very good, as it uses the same sensor as the Olympus OM-D EM-5
-The camera packed with features, including things like automatic bracketing so you can make HDR images with the correct software and the ability to take IR photos with the appropriate filter
-While autofocus is not stellar, it is pretty good, especially if you are not trying to take pictures of moving objects
-It feels very comfortable in my hands and I like that it is very light; I find myself carrying this with me more than any other camera I have owned
The tiny flash that comes with the camera works alright, but I do not use it very often as I mostly take pictures outdoors. The camera has a decent ISO range, but its performance is less than stellar on the higher range. The menus can be quite confusing to begin with, but I have actually come to appreciate them, as you can change aperture/shutter speed values within a few seconds. Overall, unless you are looking to drop a few thousand dollars on a full frame DSLR, this is a wonderful camera and has plenty of features you can continue to work with as your knowledge and experience grows.
Very expensive prime lenses.
Fast. Hunts for focus while doing video though...
