Advanced Design for a New Generation
The Olympus PEN E-P5 carries on the essence of the design found in all Olympus PEN cameras and advances its appearance to a new level. Exacting attention was given to materials, form, texture and color. The body was designed to be seamless; no external fasteners can be seen on the sides, front or top of the body. Form and operability of dials, levers and buttons are positioned for optimal ease-of-use and comfort.

1/8000s Mechanical Shutter
The E-P5 is the world's first mirrorless** camera equipped with a 1/8000 sec. high-speed mechanical shutter which allows you to freeze action without blur. Use prime lenses at their maximum aperture allowing you to capture beautifully defocused background images even in very bright daylight.

Precise Flash Sync up to 1/320s
Syncing your flash with fast shutter speeds is typically tricky; the flash is just too fast! The E-P5's shutter can sync with the built-in flash at shutter speeds up to 1/320s. This maximum sync speed gives you greater flexibility choosing the correct exposure settings when shooting outdoors in bright of back-lit conditions where fill flash on your subject is desirable.
9fps Sequential Shooting
High-speed sequential shooting as fast as 9fps can be accomplished when using the Tracking AF (C-AF+Tr), which works in tandem with the Autofocus to follow your subject.
F.A.S.T AF - Touch Focus and Short Release Time Lag
The F.A.S.T (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) AF System is able to focus at an incredible speed and offers 35 separate focus areas that are spread over the image area. Four different AF area sizes can be selected - the smallest of which makes pin-point AF accuracy possible on even the smallest of macro subjects. Selectable 3x3 groups within the 35 areas are especially effective when you need to match the AF area pattern to your particular subject. And with a time lag of only 0.044 seconds*** instant photo opportunities will not get way from you even if you are photographing a subject moving at high speeds.
*** When pressing the shutter halfway with IS Off. Battery consumption will increase and the number of shots that can be taken reduced by about 60 shots (CIPA standard).
OPTIMAL IMAGE QUALITY
5-Axis Image Stabilization with IS Auto
The PEN E-P5 is equipped with 5-Axis image stabilization system with IS-Auto. 5-Axis IS compensates for vertical, horizontal, and rotational camera shake that conventional 2-axis systems of the past have been unable to handle. While the new IS-Auto mode detects both vertical and horizontal panning and automatically deactivates image stabilization on the panning axis. IS-Auto will allow you to make spectacular panning photos of a speedy car.
5-Axis IS is built into the camera body to ensure effective stabilization with all lenses, its unique design makes it particularly effective when taking high-magnification telephoto shots, macro close-ups, and long exposures. In addition, it can be activated by pressing the shutter button halfway, so you can also use it to stabilize the viewfinder or LCD image and obtain a crisp, clear view of your subject that makes it easy to frame and compose your shots.
16MP Live MOS
Featuring the 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor of the OM-D E-M5, the Olympus Micro Four Thirds fourth generation PEN E-P5, is optimized to maximize the performance of all mZuiko digital lenses in any shooting condition. Improvements to the sensitivity and read-out speed of the existing sensor makes shooting and Full HD movie recording possible.
TruePic VI Image Processor
TruePic VI Image Processor, designed specifically for the Olympus PEN, features Real Color Technology for improved color reproduction (especially colors such as emerald green, yellow, and gold) and improved color gradation. The faster processor also allows for a shorter recovery time between shots.

QR Code Connection
Sync your PEN E-P5 to your smartphone in an instant. With the new "QR Code Connect" you take a shot of the QR code on the camera’s LCD monitor with your smartphone and your camera and smartphone are sync’d instantly using the OI.Share's private connection.
Geotags can be easily added to your photos by simply sending the high-precision GPS log data recorded by OI.Share to your camera. This function of the E-P5 allows you to use map functions on Olympus Viewer 3 or other applications supporting GPS log data.
You can easily create a combination of photos by selecting one of four themes. Each theme allows you to create a photo story of a certain flair with just a single touch. Choose Standard to capture three images in single layout to tell a story. Select "Speed" that allows continuous seamless shooting of 5 images and combines them into one image, Choose "Zoom-In/Zoom-Out" to captures two images at two different distances into one image, or select "Fun Frames" and create images that mimic Film style and Polaroids.
Art Filters and Variations
Twelve in-camera Art Filters are enhanced by new filter variations, art effects and bracketing. Photographers can use Art Filters in all shooting modes as well as when shooting HD movies.
The Twelve in-camera Art Filters (Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale and Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama, Gentle Sepia, Cross Process, Key Line, Dramatic Tone and NEW Watercolor) are enhanced by new filter variations, art effects and bracketing. Also, the E-P5 now features the Monochrome Art Filter Effect, where the Picture Tone effect can change the color from normal monotone to sepia, blue, purple, and green.
RAW Development with Art Filter Bracketing
If you can't make up your mind about choosing a filter, you can use the Art Filter Bracketing function to generate multiple pictures with Art Filters with a single shot and then view them as a slideshow. Art Filter Bracketing can be applied to recorded RAW format data by in-camera RAW processing.
Interval Shooting with Time Lapse Video
Interval shooting allows 1-99 shots, from 1 second to 24 hour time interval to easily shoot a series of pictures. he E-P5 also has a valuable feature that easily converts a series of pictures taken using interval shooting into a time-lapse movie (Max 10 seconds movie at 99 shots).
2 x 2 Dial Control with Custom Lever
2x2 dial control on the E-P5 gives you ultimate control with two dials and a function lever, allowing direct access to aperture/shutter speed,, exposure compensation, ISO settings, and white balance - directly by dial.
In addition, the Fn lever can be used to switch Movie button functions and focus modes.
Super Spot AF and Focus Peaking
Super Spot AF helps you to accurately bring even extremely small subjects into focus, allowing you to select an area even smaller than the AF point. With Small AF Target, you can set your focus even more precisely by reducing the size of the Spot AF target. The E-P5 also features Focus Peaking, which brings shots into focus manually such as when taking photos using OM or Four Thirds glass.
Live Bulb with Histogram
Now, when shooting in the "Live Bulb" mode, you can see the progression of exposure and the live Histogram shows you how exposure is distributed across all points of the image.
