These are not waterproof by specification but mine are still good after dozen of heavy showers. It's sturdy enough if you use it with regular care (avoid falls). They're not fogproof so have that in mind when you take it outside from your backpack/car/house during winter. You will have to wait for 10-15 minutes to use it because of fog. Dioptre adjustment wheel often goes in + or - direction during transport (you can't lock it) but after some time you just start to check that regularly before use. It's light to carry in your hand all day.
And finally, image quality is for this price range probably best! You will not be able to see nice colors in shades, dusk or dawn as you will have to spend much more money for that, but for 95% of your time in nature this item is great.
I would say these binoculras are best buy option for amateur nature lover. Ofcourse, if you have more money, go for something better (nitrogen filled, roof prism, etc.)
One look through these binoculars and I was in love.
I'm a huge bird watcher and I wanted binoculars in which I can see my feeders (near and far) and still see the birds on the lake which is quite a ways from the house. I did some research and I've read 8x40 binoculars are some of the best and most affordable for bird watching. That is why I chose these binoculars.
The 8x40 DPS makes it so the binoculars see a great distance and is super clear. I can focus clearly in near for the close bird feeders or far. We used these to see across my parent's river and with the naked eye we could not see birds out on the stump. With the binoculars we could clearly see there were birds there and what type they were. You can see 429 ft (130.8 m) to Close Focus Distance 13.1 ft (4.0 m).
I love that it has a diopter adjustment control (on the right eye piece) that allows you to adjust it for your eye sight. I was told this can't be locked so keep that in mind. If you wear eye glasses fold the eye cups to the outside. I have contacts and glasses and I've tried wearing glasses and folding the cups to the outside and the binoculars work great. These don't weight too much - about two lbs. They don't seem heavy to me when I pick them up to use.
It comes with a case, lens caps and a strap. If you are a bird watcher, like to watch nature in your back yard or just want a great pair of binoculars, look no further. These are a great hobbyist type binoculars that are affordable, have a clear view and are easy to use. I'd highly, HIGHLY recommend.
The photo with the deck shows the water, and the two bird feeders. You can see the detail in the one photo of the bird which is much closer.Read more ›
I now have these in 8x40 and a pair in 10x50 of this same type & use them for birding in my back yard & along the coast. I would rate these glasses equal to those costing 10 times the price.
The only improvement would be to offer a more robust case for outdoor use as these were supplied with a simple "velvet" lined "shower-proof" flexible cloth case, that provides good padding, but would probably not provide much protection if the case and contents were dropped.
Overall these are excellent glasses and a comparison of similar glasses show that they are also excellent value.
