The speaker's case and grill are metal, and the thing looks practically indestructible. On the bottom is a rubber or silicone ring that keeps the base from scratching furniture, and it also acts to keep the speaker from moving around on smooth surfaces.
The charging cable is another unique feature of the M1. It serves a dual role: to recharge the speaker's built-in 650mAh lithium battery, and to connect the speaker to a sound source's audio out port. It's a novel idea, but it works, and there's only one cable to keep up with.
I don't use a cellphone very much, and I don't like hands-free devices, so I did not test the hands-free function of the M1.

It pairs right up with a triple beep, Beep, BEEP bas sound. It will pair to any device that has Bluetooth music. The bottom has a sliding control that goes from On/Off to AUX to Bluetooth mode. There is a tiny hole of a microphone which sounds perfect for phone calls. There is a button on top that goes blue during Bluetooth and red for phone calls. Do note that there is no volume control, so you control it from your Bluetooth device.
It only charges in an hour and a half and lasts all day (well, 6-8 hours depending on volume and use). It also comes with a white cord that has a USB port and then splits to a 3.5mm plug and a micro-USB port. The entire case comes in a round clear case and makes a great gift. The instructions are very easy. This has to be one of the better and easier mini-Bluetooth speakers. It can easily be knocked over, but does have a circular grip strip on the bottom. For twenty dollars, this is a bargain.
If you want to listen to your iPhone's music with friends, pull this out of your bag, fire it up, and it's ready to go.
It's easy to sync to a Bluetooth device. Just switch on the Bluetooth connection (there's a slide switch on the bottom), turn on your Bluetooth preferences and the "OMAKER M1" will list as an option for connection. After that, your phone (or tablet, or laptop) will connect automatically when you have Bluetooth enabled and you turn this on.
You can also connect with a wire. The USB charger has a 3.5mm audio adapter, so that you can play music from your computer or your other audio device either at the same time as you are charging, or if it's already charged you can just connect it to your device only. For a wired connection, you just have to flip the switch on the bottom to the auxiliary (AUX) setting.
If you have it hooked to your phone, and you get a phone call, you can just tap the phone button on top and answer it. It'll pause your music, and the little hole in the front of the device is a microphone that will pick up your voice.
The sound is pretty good, but not excellent. It goes much louder and sounds better than, say, listening through the speakers on my iPhone 5C, or even the speakers on my laptop. But when you go to maximum loudness it does get a bit muddled, the high notes get a bit harsh, and the bass doesn't boom like I like. Still, for everyday listening it's surprisingly good.Read more ›
I read thru some reviews before purchasing this and am definitely not disappointed. The price is great and the sounds quality is as well. This is a great buy for the $!
There is no skipping tracks or volume control adjustments on the speaker. That's all done via the phone. I can answer calls, pause, play, and last number redial via that one button on the top of the speaker. It wins for sleek and minimalistic design.
Phone calls are poor. I can hear the caller, but the caller can't hear me. There's too much echoing and my voice is garbled.
Music is clear and defined with good volume, but it lacks warmth.
Bluetooth range is good. I can go down the hallway into the kitchen with wall obstructions in between before losing a signal.
Overall, it's a good personal speaker if you like sounds in the cooler range.
