The "Omamori Himari" manga is something is personally wanted ever since I bought the anime, even if the manga came out after the anime when it should be in the reverse.

This manga is my personal favorite and brings a lot with it.

Characters introduced in the first: First of all we have Himari, a smoking hot, sword wielding, cat girl who is extremely big busted and talks with an old accent (medieval sorta). Then we have Yuuto Amakawa who at first is a plain kid with a normal life (which obviously is about to change) with extreme allergies to cats, this comes into play later on and is a riot. Last we have Rinko (snobby, annoying, jealous of everything, overreacting, etc.), who I think is supposed to be Yuuto's girlfriend or something, but after a while no one cares about her and all the attention is shifted away from her, sad. A ton more hot girls are introduced in later volumes i will spoil it, and it becomes a harem so, ya, sweet right.

Story: Yuuto is starts off as a normal kid, until he is visited by a strange girl on his way to school who tells him later that she has come to protect him from evil spirits, because he is some sort of legendary demon hunter to be. So now after his 16th birthday he has become the target of many vengful spirits. Hopefully he will be able to survive to his next birthday, you will have to either read to see, or watch the anime.

The plot is enjoyable and exciting, makes you want the second volume to come out sooner. There are scenes that are extremly erotic (THIS IS NOT FOR KIDS!!!). Dispite that Himari is sometimes just so "KAWAII!" or cute if you don't know japanese, anyway she brings this manga to the top in my book as an extremly funny character with a varatie of traits.

I only have one real problem with this manga and that is many scenes that were enjoyable in the anime were taken out to make it fit I guess.

Buy it deffinitly if you enjoy manga, buy don't read it to you children.

There are many manga stories where the main male character has some hidden talent and is protected by a beautiful, sexy demon. What an artist does with these basic elements is the difference between a cliche ridden manga and one that has the reader care about what happens to the characters. For me, Omamori Himari is very much in the latter category and a manga that is very good. The plot revolved around Yuuto Amakawa. At the beginning of the story, he has just turned 16. On the way to school with his best friend, Rinko Kuzaki, he meets Himari Noihara, who appears and announces that Yuuto is a Demon Slayer and that she is there to protect him from various demons. It seems that an amulet given to Yuuto by his grandfather is losing its ability to shield him from demons out to kill him. As the story progresses in this first book (covering chapters 1-6), Yuuko meets Shizuku, a snake type demon who can control water. At first, she plans to kill Yuuko, but as with any ecchi story line, she eventually wants to seduce him. The story has a number of sexual innuendos and obligatory panty shots. While Himari is a sexy buxom female, Shizuku settles on a body of a 13 year old. Thus, there is a strong lolicon flavor to the story and, in latter books, a harem tone, too. In my view, these are elements found in many manga books, but do not detract from the high quality plot and artwork in Omamori Himari. I very much liked this manga and highly recommend it. Just remember that it has a stronger sexual tone than may mangas and is not for younger readers. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, there is an anime based on the manga. It is also excellent. However, as I write this review, it does not seem to be available in the U.S., except on various anime oriented websites.Read more ›

I loved this Manga. I first heard of it when I accidentally came across the Anime for the series. I don't usually read comics; however, after reading this Manga, I feel that I really like comics. I love that this series Genre is Ecchi and Harem. I've always liked those put together in Anime titles like Toradora (とらドラ) and Zero No Tsukaima (ゼロに使い魔). I would definitely recommend this Manga to anyone who likes the above Mangas.

As many other reviewers have mentioned before the sexy demon protecting demon slayer trope is an oft repeated one, but I find that the characters are likeable enough where the overused trope is not a hindrance to enjoy the story and artwork.

The ecchi scenes provide some great eye candy without taking you completely out of the story, which is a must for me.

Highly recommended starting this series if you haven't already.

This is definitely a concept that has been done before. There is nothing incredibly unique about this series. A boy and his childhood best friend, who clearly likes him, are walking to school on his sixteenth birthday when he meets a cat-demon who swears to protect him. He also happens to be allergic to cats. The series has a few panty shots and big boobs but overall I thought it was cute and funny. Also I love that Yen Press gives us the few color pages at the beginning that most publishers just print in black and white. I have only read the first book but I am wondering if it is going to turn into a harem manga because a third girl was thrown in at the end. I like it enough to keep reading so we'll have to wait and see.
