First of all, let me start by saying that this story line was a little outside the box for what I normally read as I normally don't read stories about wolves and other type of fantasy like books.
But the nature of the book interested me and I wanted to read it to give it a try.
The story is very intriguing. Since it's mostly erotica, there isn't a huge story line but we learn that Cain is a massage therapist with an adopted brother who comes looking for Cain's services for a sore shoulder.
When they finally meet, there is this underlying layer of lust, mainly because Cain is an Omega and Gabel, the brother, is an Alpha, and despite that they are adopted brothers, they fall prey to their desires, and let me say, the desires are quite hot.
The sex is steamy, lustful, and insanely hot. The author is very descriptive in the details and paints the scene in your mind that makes you feel like you are there watching these guys have sex.
While some may consider this a taboo topic since it involves adopted brothers, I actually thought it added intrigue to the story and made it sexier.
If you like taboo topics like brotherly love and books about wolves, Alpha and Omega, then this is the book for you. This is the second book of a series that can stand alone as its own.
The first book of the series tells the story of Cain lusting after the college rugby team captain after seeing him naked in the changing room. This book is only available to members of the author's private membership by following a link at the end of this book once you download it.
I enjoy reading new writers to see if I can spot potential to follow. I believe JD Holt qualifies and I am looking forward to reading more of his books.
You will enjoy this is if you like m/m erotica with hot, steamy sex!
We are told at the beginning of the book that "erotica broadly falls into one of two categories; pure erotica where the focus is more on sex and far less about the story or erotica romance where the story and sex receive equal attention." (I have copied that part word for word!) Anyway this novella book is definitely all about the M/M erotica. Having received this and noticed that it was book two i asked for the first book. Book two is a stand alone but i do like to start a series from the beginning.
I was not sure what to expect, mostly because I have not read very many M/M erotica books, but I enjoyed reading both of them. The erotica is well written and sexy. I don't understand the whole impregnation part of the story but I love the descriptions of the Alpha/Omega dynamics. I would love there to be more story but that is my own preference.
When the next one comes out I would read it and if you are a lover of M/M erotica you will most certainly like this.
Since this is a new author with a new series JD wisely offers information about his project and the general concept of the Alpha/Omega division: ‘Alpha wolves lead their packs, Omega wolves submit to them to be impregnated so the Alpha’s lineage can live on. What if it was possible for their sexual natures to continue into their next lives and lie dormant until the time was right for them to be awakened once more? Then Alphas will again be in search of Omegas to breed so they can fulfill their true natures. This series tells the story of how Cain Watson, an Omega wolf from another time and place is awakened and initiated as an Alpha Magnet in his current life. Each of the novelettes in this series is a standalone book. Book 1 explains how Cain is awakened. Subsequent books are his stories as an Alpha Magnet. Erotica broadly falls into one of two categories; pure erotica where the focus is more on sex and far less about the story or erotica romance where the story and sex receive equal attention. Although JD Holt writes in both of these categories, this series belongs more to that of pure erotica.’
JD’s writing style fits snugly into his elected story type form the first paragraph – ‘As he’d instructed before leaving, I lay stark naked in the center of the huge bed, waiting, while guilt and wild lust continued to do battle in my head. “How the hell did this happen Cain?” I whispered to myself. Sure there had been warnings, in no uncertain terms. As an initiated Omega they would find me. They, being Alphas, could and would appear, at any time and in any place. No kidding! But nobody had told me an Alpha could also be someone I had known for practically all my life. Perhaps a caution I had missed?’
The novella is short but tight and well scribed. The summary reveals the temptation to read – ‘Newly initiated Alpha magnet Cain Watson is intrigued when his estranged adopted brother, Gabel, asks to see him as a client. Cain agrees but within minutes of their meeting, discovers Gabel is an Alpha wolf, looking for far more than professional services or innocent brotherly love. Cain is torn between his attraction for his sibling and what others might say if they were to be discovered.’
A fresh new take on M/M gay romance with a hefty dose of steamy erotica and shapeshifting. Looks like we have another potential successful author on our hands! Grady Harp, November 16
