Omega Force: To Hell and Back (OF13) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 4,316 ratings

A new killer is cutting a bloody swath through the frontier worlds.
Rumors of its exploits are spreading and, like a ghost, nobody even knows what it looks like.

Captain Jason Burke and his crew watch this growing menace with a mix of unease… and guilt. They know who this killer is. He used to be one of them.

Seven, as he now called himself, is their former crewmate. The powerful, sentient machine that had once gone by Lucky has suffered a psychotic break and is now a problem that Omega Force has to deal with. Jason wants to believe that he can still save Lucky, but the longer Seven remains, the more he has to admit that it might be better for everybody if he was just eliminated before he can hurt any more innocents. The real question is can they even do it? Many have gone up against Seven already. None were alive to talk about it. The Omega Force crew is in for the fight of their lives against someone who knows everything about them.
Every strength.
Every weakness.
Can Jason take down Seven without losing anyone else?

A fast and entertaining read, with some very high highs and very low lows for the characters. There is some very fair funny dialog, a particular talent of the author. My only quibble is with the editing, which overlooks poor grammar in the narrative, unclear references and other issues that slow the reader down as one tries to decipher shat was really meanr. (Just one example: at the end of the book, a paragraph ends with Jason going out on the deck. The next paragraph uses only the pronoun "he," but it is it cannot be referring to Jason. After a moment's thought it is clear the subject of the paragraph is Lucky. A good editor should have substituted that proper name for the first "he" in the paragraph in order to make clear who we were reading about. There are many such lapses in the book, and overall it reads as though it was dictated but rushed to publication without a careful edit. But given Mr. Dealzielle's gift for telling a story, his unparalleled ability to narrate action shines through and makes reading this book very enjoyable indeed. I look forward to the author's next endeavor!

Enjoyed seeing the team working hard to get business taking care of. Glad that there were some relationships that are beginning to mend and working on a plan for slowing down a bit as they age

As usual it is just over way too soon for my liking.

Sped through the book way too fast but I was overdue for the installment and couldn't contain myself. Just like the last 12 books it moves along fast. Plenty of action, and a check in with previous characters 😉.

Don't want to post any spoilers, but this is a great series to get involved with. 👍

If you are reading this book then hopefully you have read the books leading up to it and this book continues the great story with the interesting fun characters you know. I’m happy Doc is more involved in this book as I felt he fell out of the recent stories even though he was there but he is more involved in this book. This book has great humor and action as the rest of the series has and any fan of the series definitely won’t be disappointed. Now back to waiting patiently for the next installment.

The boys are back, and it's time to try to save a certain friend, or kill him.

Joshua Dalzelle has done it again, and it looks like he is preparing to tie up some story arcs. I'm not going to give away the satisfying ending. But it's a really good one. 😉

This book is not at all predictable, and I'm good at predicting. This particular resolution was quite different than I could have imagined! But, I cried and celebrated at the same time. And so did our crew. Enough said.

Let's just say, I anxiously await the next OMEGA FORCE book, and I hope Mr. Dalzelle never gets tired of writing them!

If you're new to this series, I suggest you start with book one: OMEGA RISING. Then two, then three... You won't be able to put them down!

As a whole, what is the series about? A human from earth inadvertently travels to space and learns that there are thousands of inhabited planets, and bipedal species, most of which are spacefaring.

He makes some friends, gets a ship, and they travel the quadrant trying to do good. They're honorable mercenaries, for the most part. And you'll wish you were friends with these colorful and often amusing guys who are very good at fighting and shooting and blowing things up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks Mr Dalzelle

I don’t think this writer really needs favourable reviews but here’s mine anyway. This is a wonderfully consistent series of stories that still hasn’t exhausted its possibilities. The only competition at the top of this particular field in my opinion would be Richard Fox with the Ember War saga, which has now come to its end. The rich vein of humour in the Omega crew and their constant need to insult and offend each other never gets tired, and the more serious elements are still carry the weight of conviction. There are a lot of people out there trying their hand at this kind of thing, but this guy is at the top. More please!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much looking into the past
Reviewed in Germany on July 15, 2023
The First chapters lack a real storyline. There is too much looking back to explain things - but not succeeding. Lacking the wit of past books.

2nd half of the book is about on par with former books. But humor keeps lacking.
