A LOVE ODE TO MY JUICER

I have a juicer. She's fancy. She's an Omega Vertical juicer.

She's slow, and she's finicky. She has a lot of demands. She likes things a certain way. If you don't treat her right, she doesn't give you what you want.

My juicer is a bit of a diva. Like her mama.

She doesn't like being manhandled. She likes the veggies to be cut up, small. She likes different textures fed to her, slowly. Don't be pushing gobs of celery down her throat, she doesn't like that.

A bit of carrot. A slice of lemon. Little bit of cucumber. Mmmm, some kale. Bit of ginger. Ooooohhhh a slice of apple. Yes, little bits a time. She likes that.

She doesn't like to keep going. She likes to be cleaned after a batch, rinse her out good and THEN keep going. That girl needs a break, a little shower, and then she's good to go as many rounds as you like.

You have to learn how she works. Pay attention. You have to let go of all the ideas of what a juicer is and learn her ways. Listen to her sounds, look closely to how she works best.

But, when you know her, when you love her the way she likes being loved, she'll give you life. Life-enhancing, slow-made juice that lasts for days. Makes you feel good. Makes your brain work and your body strong.

My juicer and me, we are a good match. I get her. She gets me.

I love my juicer.

Did a LOT of research - I hope this review will save you time

Being an engineer by training, I did extensive research on which juicer to buy. I'd like to share why I chose this one, and it's pros and cons -- so that I can hopefully save some of you some time.

My two biggest criteria for selection were: #1- The juicer had to extract the MAXIMUM JUICE from the food, and #2 - The juice had to be EASY TO CLEAN.

I figured that if the juicer was not easy to clean, I would not use it. I don't like to clean. I did not use price as a filtering criteria because I figured if I could get a juicer that maximized the juice, it would pay for itself over time even if it cost more to buy.

So here's my list of what I concluded were the best juicers on the market for my needs, and the pros and cons:

Omega VSJ843QS (*the one I bought)
Pros: Extracts the maximum juice of virtually all juicers. It is the easiest to clean. hardly any pulp remains in the juice. Best engineered auger design - they have taken the best features from other brands and incorporated into their latest auger, hence why it extracts the maximum juice. Relatively small footprint. 15 year warranty.
Cons: Hard veggies like some roots can get stuck, so you have to reverse. Not versatile - can not make almond milk or do other things. It is best for making all kinds of juices only. It is not cheap.

Slowstar Tribest
Pros: Very versatile - comes with attachments and can make a almond milk and do lots thing other than just juices.
Cons: Harder to clean vs. the Omega VSJ. Too tall, would not fit underneath my counter.

Omega J8006
Pros: relatively cheap. extracts a lot of juice, but not as much as the omega above. Produces a bit of pulp in the juice (for those who like some pulp). Easy to clean. 15 year warranty.
Cons: Large footprint - takes up a lot of counter space for storage. Produces pulp (I don't like pulp). Veggies have to be pushed into the auger with the pusher. Unlike the vertical models, the veggies don't self-feed into the machine by gravity.

Bottom line: As of June 1, 2015, in my opinion the Omega VSJ843QS is the best put veggie juicer on the market.

The horizontal juicers are so much better

This is my second Omega masticating juicer I have. I've had my first one (a horizontal one) for close to 15 years. That one was far better than this one. It's easier to clean, creates less pulp, doesn't get stuck. I was so surprised after reading all the positive reviews that I wasn't fond of this juicer. I called up Omega to see if the issues I had were normal. They said that if I had a horizontal juicer before, I wouldn't be happy with this one. The two representatives I spoke to said the horizontal ones were the superior product. They said the people who seem enamoured by the vertical juicers generally have never used the horizontal ones. One of the men said the best Omega juicers out there are the nc800 and nc900. I wish I didn't throw out the packaging as I would love to return it. Hopefully other people will read this review and rethink their purchase.

Such an amazing machine. Had to get my Mom and Brother one after they saw how easy it was to create juice you pay a fortune for in stores. And who knows what's being added in the process. The self cleaning is a plus. Win Win with a 15 year warranty !!! You can also close the hole so you can fill up to 16oz inside the base of the bowl. If you want to turn your health around into a light you've never felt. This is the juicer to give you that inspiration to enjoy juicing everyday.

pros: the pulp is pretty dry. excellent yeld. 15 yesars warranty. save counter space.

cons: still has a lot to clean, little holes and indents. the squeaky noise of the vege rub on the plastic auger is very loud and unpleasant. needs to cut produce into small pieces to fit in the small hole.

overall, it's still a good compact machine with low revolution and good yeld, plus excellent warranty for a peace of mind. The noise can get used to. The cleaning part can just use plenty of water to flush those pulp out with a little help with the brush that comes with the machine. chopping produce to smaller pieces is better than have to push it down hard with a plunger, like my green star juicer. For the health sake, it is worth the money and effort.
(p.s. just a little tip, the auger is really hard to pull out at the begining when it arrived, but after fill the compartment with water and let it run a bit to let it self-clean, it became a lot easier)
