I've written a review for this product which spanned over a couple of years because I just loved it. I use two of these in my home with clumping litter and it's rare anyone can tell I have 2 cats. It's been about 5 years since I bought my boxes and I noticed that the clumping stuff was starting to stick to the bottom and I was having to scrape it off. Having some experience with industrial chemistry, I took the boxes outside and cleaned them so well, you could eat out of them (LOL but I won't!). Then I made a solution of liquid fabric softener and water and spritzed it all over the interior and exterior of the boxes including the drawer and let them bake in the sun for a day (this was before the weather turned cold). I polished them with a clean rag until the plastic looked lustrous once again and the softener residue was no longer sticky. This seemed to work. The next time I scooped the poop (or "rolled the poop" to be more accurate), the clumps actually came out with FLAT bottoms (meaning that nothing was sticking to the bottom). So far, so good. We're in the middle of winter and my boxes let go of the waste as easily as they did after I gave them the water+softener treatment.
I also just bought a new one for my son's new cat. These things are absolutely phenomenal. Have read some complaints about the latches breaking off, so I've always been gentle with them. But should they ever break, you better believe I'll find another way of attaching the top to the bottom, because I've used numerous cat boxes over decades and NONE of them lasted 5 years or were easier to keep clean.
One other thing I'd like to add for those with any kind of litter box....you must tend to it. If not daily then every other day depending on how many cats you have. I go with at least one box per cat. With the exception of the self cleaning boxes (which I've read come with some pretty horrific results and cost a fortune) no box will clean itself. Most people I know place their cat's box in the basement or some other place where it's out of sight (and out of mind) and unless they're super motivated, the poor cat is condemned to find a small space to poop or pee in. Eventually the cat will find somewhere else to relieve himself (like a favorite armchair or bed?) and then these people have the nerve to blame the cat!!!
Cats are clean animals by nature and dislike having to do their business elsewhere but what can they do? How would you like to waltz through an excrement field of your very own feces and urine every time you needed to use the latrine? You wouldn't. So why do you think your cat would like it any more than you? Whatever box you go with, please keep it clean. Place it somewhere that you go every day (like maybe your own bathroom). That will give you the motivation to keep it clean. As for this product, it's a great box for anyone's cat.

I absolutely love this box, and so does my cat.Cleaning the cat litter box is the only thing worse than cleaning up the cat puke. As cat owners we just have to grin and bear both. This Omega Paw Self-Cleaning litter box makes the former a lot easier (and the latter can be made easier with the wonderful SpotBot--See my review on that for more information).This is not to say that this involves no work at all, but it certainly has reduced the work for me.My cat is a staggering 24 pound altered male. When he pees, he pees a lot. I use a brand of litter called Swheat Scoop. Swheat Scoop is a natural litter made from wheat protein. Swheat Scoop is also notoriously sticky. There is not a litter box in existence that Swheat Scoop clumps won't get stuck to. That is the trade off for using a healthier litter (if you are curious do some searching about clay and silica litters, they are unhealthy for you, your cat and the environment).This box is no exception to the Swheat Scoop sticky factor, but I find it is much easier to deal with with this box. Once I turn the box on its side, and let the litter sift out through the grate, I just hit the clumps with the old scoop to knock them loose form the bottom of the box. I don't mind adding the extra step of knocking the clumps off the box. They come loose without any problem. It takes no more than 30 - 60 seconds to do this. Compare that to spending 5 - 10 minutes scooping the litter and still missing some of the clumps and solids.Once I have knocked all the clumps loose I roll the box onto its top and then back over, as per the directions. The clumps and solid bits drop into the drawer without any problem. I then tip the box to the right to allow all the sifted litter to come back into the main comparement and give the box a little shake to even the litter back out.That is all there is to it. It really does beat scooping.I have also used a sifting litter box. This is the kind that comes in three pieces. Two pieces are regular litter boxes and one piece is a sifter that you place on the bottom of the box, before you add the litter. When cleaning time comes you lift the sifter out. The clumps come up with it. You discard the clumps and then place the sifter into the empty box and pour the litter into that box. The now empty box portion goes undernearth the newly filled box. Even though the steps involved with a sifting box may seem less complicated, I had nothing but trouble with them. Since the sifter is sitting directly underneath the litter it tends to get clogged up with use. I would have to take it outside and spray it off every single day. It got to be more of a hassle than just using a regular box and scooping. This is the real advantage of this Omega Paw box. Since the sifter is to the side of the litter it does not get wet and therefore does not get clogged up.The Omega Paw box does still need to be cleaned. With my one 24 pound cat I find that a litter change and cleaning is required about once every 6 weeks. (Any litter box is going to require a regular cleaning to keep it healthy for your cat.) This does require some effort. The box has to be disassembled, then the litter needs to be dumped into a trash bag or other container. I then rinse it out and let water with a little bit of bleach soak in it for about an hour. I rinse it out really good (to be sure no bleach is left in the box), let it dry, reassemble and add all fresh litter. The process is more involved that with a regular box, but I find it to be a fair trade off.Because the box uses a lot more litter than a typical box, I do think that the cleaning process may be difficult for people with mobility issues. For this reason, it may not be the best choice. Even though the actual rolling and discarding of the solids is easier than with a traditional box, the regular cleaning is important and neglecting this will result in odor and an unhealthy environment for your cat.If you are looking at this box because you have mobility problems, allow me to suggest an alternative. Get a paper shredder and shred newspapers. Most places that sell newspapers will let you get the old papers for free. Shred up the regular black and white newsprint (nothing printed in color, this does not absorb as well). Put the shredded newspaper into a large litter box. Use a lot of newspaper and leave it somewhat fluffed up. Newspaper does remarkably well at absorbing urine and odor. It is also better for your cat and more environmentally friendly. Best of all, it is super easy to maintain. Because the newspaper weighs almost nothing dumping the box is very easy to do. It is absolutely no problem to dump a box with newspaper on a daily basis. And, since it is being dumped daily, a regular thourough cleaning becomes less necessary. Dump it every day (if you only have one cat you might even be able to get away with dumping it every other day) and add fresh paper. If any paper sticks to the bottom of the box just scrape it out with the scoop, it is very easy to do.Newspaper is also much less expensive than regular cat litter. In fact, it is almost free. It is really a viable alternative for anyone who is on a budget. I used newspaper for about a year. The only reason I stopped using it was because I was having to go out into the garage to shred the newspaper and that was becoming a hassle with hot summers and snowy winters. But, most people wouldn't have to go into the garage, they can shred the paper from the comfort of a cozy recliner while watching TV.In conclusion, I really like the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. I give it 5 stars. I have compared it with a sifting box and offered an alternative for people with mobility issues or people on a budget. This box may not be the perfect box for you, but it doesn't hurt to try it out and see.
