The machine is small, but heavy and appears to well made from high quality materials.
The machine was easy to operate and made juice quickly, with good yield (a large apple created about 4 ounces juice out of one spout and perhaps an once of pulp out of the other spout) and juice texture was similar to "orange juice with pulp".
I liked the quality and taste of the our first batch of apple, celery, carrot, sugar snap pea and tomato juice, and I thought the juice seemed about as fresh after a day in the refrigerator (just colder).
Clean up was not bad, as the machine can be taken apart to clean and put back together fairly easily and includes a cleaning brush.
Product appears to be a winner.
- Makes excellent quality juice (low heat Masticating process and promises 72 hour juice life)
- Operates Quickly and Easily
- Appears to be high quality (with 10 year warranty from apparently the best customer rated manufacturer)
- Expensive (though we got a deep discount)
- Clean-up (though not bad)
- Need to remove seeds and pre-chop most fruits and vegetables somewhat
- The instructions should state that the pulp plug is not optional and must be installed before operating and should only be removed for cleaning.
I already have the nutrition center (horizontal version) of the same brand. I decided to try this version because of the counter saving idea ;)
If you're looking for a masticating machine that is faster than the other and that it leaves some pulp, this one is for you!
This model doesn't squeeze the veggies as much as the horizontal one. If you want to juice spinach, you need to add something hard in between (like carrot pieces) otherwise the spinach will get stuck to the auger and not go through.
The exit spout gets stuck with veggies at the end. Every time I've used it, I had to use the brush that comes with the machine to empty the spout.
It's faster than the horizontal model.
It uses less counter space.
Is less expensive.
It's easy to clean (other than the spout)
Leaves too much pulp, the inside strainer doesn't really strain.
It doesn't squeeze so much the veggies (the other one leaves the leftovers totally DRY).
The exit spout gets stuck with residues
Leafy greens cannot be juiced alone. They need something harder to help them go through.
Bottom line: I'm debating if I should return it or not.
On one hand it takes less counter space and there are no other options at this price for masticating machine, and on the other we don't like so much pulp in our extract + I find that it wastes some of the veggies that don't get squeezed :(
I'll come back later with an update ;)
OK, Just getting started on day one and I put it side by side with my trusty Jack L. "pro" juicer (not the amateur model :-) I started using 2 apples and one carrot in each machine of similar size. Both yielded 8 ounces of juice but the Jack L's juice looked watery.
Then the taste test. Winner: Omega VRT. Richer, more froth and flavor. Jack L. was thin, sweet with noticeably less flavor.
Cleanup is a bit more tedious with the Omega and is a bit slower, but given the superior product and less noise, I'll be finding a new home for Jack.
