From OMEGA FEVER to OMEGA THIRST was a significant change in character development as well as plot. More emphasis was placed on the story, than the sex between the main characters. He introduced a new vernacular in shifter literature, that I had been to encounter in the hundreds of shifter stories I've read over the past several years. He spoke about the concept of "glyph type". He also did some rather complicated shifter world building in the middle of Atlanta, Georgia.
While there were no actual male pregnancies, the realization of male Omega pregnancy was discussed with a stunned Human from a scientific background who was just adjusting to the concept of shifters, his own sexuality, and the hottest man on the planet as both his roommate and boyfriend. Also being told of the baser realities of shifter glyph type behaviors was far beyond disconcerting. The nearly uncontrollable needs & scents of an Omega and the corresponding desires in Alphas and Betas after smelling an Omega in heat was the absolute last thing Zach expected or wanted to hear about.
But that was just one part of the story, the main plot surrounded the plan to bring to trial a loathsome Wolf shifter named Jason, from a neighboring pack, that had a vendetta against Wesley and he was certain unless this nearly "rogue" Wolf was stopped, there were going to be some dire consequences for Wesley, Zach and additional people Zach cared about.
The feelings and emotions of the characters, along with the heightened testosterone, made for danger, desire, and violence. Arcane pack rules and rituals, combined with inter-pack political machinations, and underhanded backstabbing weasels that where Wolves in species only make for an exciting story. And to add to the drama the MCs are questioning their new relationship, particularly in light of all the revelations about pack affairs.
If you enjoy reading about (Wolf) shifters, this book should be right up your alley. And it is a nice introduction to a writer of contemporary MM romances that gets better with each book. Be prepared for some angst, but you will also be rewarded with a well deserved happily ever after.
