Lacey comes home to give her sister Laura, the good news. Anthony wants her to come to NY and work for him. Did you ever think there maybe a reason I didn't answer him, Laura replies. Designing is her first love, not being on the farm and helping with the horses. Her ex husband made her a laughing stock and she lost everything. She is summons back to NY, and fell in love with the city again. Taking the job, and being friends with a single dad, was an added bonus. Good plot and characters, as you read along with Laura, and having a second chance at something she love's. Maybe a second chance at love, also. Readers will enjoy this second book in the series, and continuing with characters we love to hear more about. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Told from dual perspectives, Marcus and Laura have a good connection that is steadily re-established when they end up temporarily living together, there is already some foundation given the fact they have known each other since childhood, Marcus being a friend of her brother’s, and both had secret feelings for the other when younger. While there is some development of their relationship, personally I would have liked to have seen a bit more of them together as you knew it was moving along but didn’t necessarily see it play out fully, and especially with Marcus’ son, Toby. Things do heat up but it’s a slow build and the book is mostly clean in terms of the relationship between the two.
Once in a New York Minute had a good plot that keeps things building with twists and turns throughout to stop it being entirely predictable. However, the reason I didn’t give this four stars is in the ARC copy there were quite a few grammar issues that were distracting e.g. missing speech marks, words etc. Hopefully it will be fixed from the ARC file and won’t be an issue for future readers but it distracted me from this good and unique story. One thing I can guarantee is that there is a HEA to make this a standalone read and despite following character’s from the previous book in this series, you do not need to have read that one before reading this one.
Overall, I liked the book and the author has good potential.
