Stevie Parker is in couples therapy with her boyfriend only her boyfriend keeps missing the appointments leaving her to wonder if they were really compatible. Stevie works in publishing, she’s the top fiction editor at a prestigious publishing house, she loves her job but when her father calls her to ask her to come home and help in the family owned bookstore as her mother is ill she knows she could do with a break to think her life choices.
Cal was injured in battle while serving in the army so he moves to Harper’s Corner to rest and recuperate, he starts working in a bookstore to keep himself busy, when he meets Stevie he’s sure she’s going to sack him the minute her parents leave town.
Stevie and Cal actually become closer but they both have their pasts to overcome before they can find their happily ever after.
I loved this story, this author is quickly becoming one of my favourites. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Callahan never remains in one place. Can love keep him? He is a wounded hero. Can he find a way to let love heal him? This is a cute story about love happening where and when you least expect it.
The small town setting was wonderful. I could picture the beautiful displays in the small town shops at Christmas time as I walk down the sidewalk saying hi to all the townspeople as they pass by. There is gossip shared, stories told, but mostly it’s just friendly chit-chat since everyone knows everyone. This is exactly how I picture Harper’s Corner.
The romance of Cal and Stevie is steamy. From their first fiery meeting, the sparks are flying but it is slow going for the two of them to realize that there is more than just sparks between them. I liked that they worked around each other, had conversations, flirted, and just spent time together while slowly realizing that there was more between them than just co-workers. It was refreshing to read a story where the characters didn’t just jump into bed and each other. They took the time to trust and respect each other.
Christina George is an author that I always read. From the beginning with her Publicist series (which is where Kate comes from) to the Harper Corner’s series I have never been disappointed and am always excited to see what is coming next.
Stevie grew up around books, since her parent's local bookstore was her home away from home. She found her niche as an editor for a large publishing house in New York City, and as a result has become very successful. She loves her job and the authors she represents. Luckily she is able to telecommute, when her parents need her to takeover their store during the holiday season. Her modern ideas and innovative marketing skills breathe new life into the store, which results in lots of sales. Working and falling in love with Callahan, the store assistant her father recently hired, is the icing on the cake.
Callahan prefers to move around a lot. He is ex-military and lost his wife to cancer a few years ago. Due to his past, he believes settling down and making new friends will only cause him additional heartache. Working at the bookstore is his present occupation and Stevie ends up being his present distraction. Callahan and Stevie rub each other the wrong way when they first meet, but overtime their relationship evolves and they become more than friends.
This is a sexy holiday romance with two main characters that I really enjoyed getting to know. Stevie's group of friends, known as the coven, are fun and supportive. Stevie's very pretentious ex-boyfriend is amazingly condescending, and I couldn't help but laugh at his contemptible actions. Harper's Corner is a small town that has it all, and Ms. George's words made me want to spend time there. Overall a solid read.
