Being an expat myself, I appreciated both the humorous and heartfelt writings in this book. Sometimes tongue in cheek and often touching, this book is a must read for expats who feel like strangers in a strange land - or like they've found a new home. You will enjoy this book!

Expatriate Tales At Their Very Best!

I try to read absolutely anything and everything that has to do with living abroad in Italy as the stereotypical culture clash tends to guarantee laughs along the way and the Italy short story here follows suit along with all the wonderful tales of woe and adventure from authors/expats the world over! I'll say this book may make you a bit jealous of all these remarkable ladies who stepped out of their comfort zones to follow a dream!

What a wonderful compilation!!! Full of soul, humour and feeling, these stories are well worth the read!

These stories made me laugh, made me cry, and most of all, made me feel like I'm not alone on this expat ride!! Having lived in 5 countries (and having a bit of a gypsy soul), so many of those adventures are incredibly familiar to me... It's fascinating how relatable these experiences are, even if the stories are coming from different corners of the world, from different people at different times - at the end of the day we're all in the same boat, living the same human dilemmas, learning everyday and trying to make the best of everything, wherever we may be in the world!

I think this book will appeal to three types of people - that is, to say, nearly everyone. There are those who have never (or rarely) left home, and who are happy to explore the world through reading the words of those who have done it. There are those who are about to embark on an expat life (it's not such a small number, after all) and who want to know how to handle it, what to expect, how to adjust. And then there are those of us who have been expats several times and want to read, in sympathy and curiosity, the experiences of others who have lived in the same country or one yet to be explored.

Jump into the lives of women who have outmanoeuvred people in the checkout line, who have gone into the "men's" tent in a Muslim country, who have fought life-threatening illnesses, who have stripped naked to have their blood pressure checked, who needed months to know where to throw the dead Christmas tree, who drank from faulty water filters, who were born of nomads and gave birth to nomads, and many more. You'll love their stories. I did.
